new ciecio7 nikon adapter for DX and G

A while ago I wrote to ciecio7 with a link that shows Underdahl's technique, for nikon DX and G lens aperture control.
Looks like he finally did it. Nice one.

Here is Doug Underdahl's original youtube video LINK showing how the technique works.

and ciecio7's ebay link for this new product

Original credit for this execution should go to Doug Underdahl.
Please note, before ciecio7 I originally approached Doug about making this for the micro 4/3rds mount
but he politely declined.

This is great! Looks like the best option out there for a Nikon adapter!

Easily the best mount. Now you can control aperture on the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8
or the Nikon G 14-24mm f2.8 and a host of other lenses

I just logged on here to post this but you beat me to it JDavis...I have two of his mounts now coming.....yay!!

My friend has this for his Red camera. It's a clever solution to the problem of gelded lenses. The system for marking your exposure based on the histogram is flawed and not-repeatable, you need to re-calibrate with manual lens for every scene or whenever your lighting conditions change, which to me defeats the purpose and becomes a time waster

I'm working on a repeatable externally controlled Nikon DX adapter/iris solution. It won't be $100 (probably about 3x that price) but it will offer external markings, and be suitable for professional/rental use.

all this is great news... can't wait to see the hotrod version. any projected release date Illya?

I hear you...for what I need in the very near future however, I'll be shooting pretty much wide open and adjusting with filters (I only have one lens I will be using it with in any case)...waiting to see what your repeatable adapter will be able to do Illya.

Cheers,
Sam.

Looking forward to your adapter Illya as the micro 4/3rds mount has a huge future beyond the GH1

What is the histogram system you are referring to? I don't know about it.

I believe it is in reference to the original youtube video by Doug Underdahl.

I should have watched Doug's video through to completion. I stoppped hafway once I understood the functionality of the bolt system.

For most of us GH1 shooters the new ceicio7 adapter will not give us precise control but some control is better than no control and for the price it is easily the best option on the market for now.

In my case with the tokina 11-16 I can stop down the iris till I feel the image is about right, with longer focal lengths I can adjust the dof till its manageable for a moving actor.

I think Illya's mount will be very useful once panasonic moves beyond the vDSLR form factor and micro 4/3rds properly enters the pro realm. Because the micro 4/3rds sized sensor is smaller than DX or APS-c then dof will be more manageable giving micro 4/3rds a slightly better lowlight advantage.

Keeps us informed Illya

I am an absolute noob so correct me if I'm wrong but I know you can easily see the effect of changing aperture in real time with the GH1 during full manual with the Exposure meter. So I don't see the need to have exact stops? What would the reason be?

Well, if you want to match exposures 100% the meter can be off. I suppose you could switch to spot meter and hold out a grey card, but that can be tedious.

And yes! BWAHAHAHA just what I've been waiting for. :D

Ceicio7's new adapter arrived ... it's pretty sweet. Well built. I recommend this for all GH1 users who like nikon glass.
In this pic I'm using it to control aperture on the Tokina 11-16 f2.8 DX

That's awesome...like I needed to be more tempted by that ****ing Tokina.

I am just gonna take a few deep breaths and wait...I do not want to spend the money right now.

I am waiting to see pricing and release info on that fast 14mm pancake they announced for next year.

I really like Nikon glass... but are there cheap Nikon lenses out there that can match the price/usefulness of the Canon FDs?

<--- lens noob.

mine came today! - looks like i don't need the old one. anyone want an f-mount only adapter? pm me :)

Mine came in yesterday, I went ahead and got the new one but it turns out none of the lenses I have found actually require it. Not even the Vivitar.

Regardless, I am very satisfied with this adapter!

Beside the Tokina, have you tried other lenses G or non-G? In another forum people complain about the Novoflex adapter that it does not fit some of the lenses. I am particularly interested in using it to mount the 35/1.8 and the Sigma 50/1.4. Thanks.

I got mine last weekend. Does exactly what I want except the positioning of the adjustment pin gets in the frigging way for mounting to the blackbird stabilizer. if it were just a little more low profile then I would be total stoked. In any case, I'll make my own pin up and will be golden. Damn I love that Tokina 11-16... C'mon Ben, you know you can't wait...it's an awesome lens :)

Oh one more thing, I was falling over myself in excitement (it arrived just as I was walking out the door for shooting) to put the adapter on and ALMOST forgot to check there was no crap in there destined for the surface of the GH1 sensor...guess what? A few relatively large metal filings from where the hole has been drilled where trapped inside the nooks and crannies... PLEASE, PLEASE for the sake of your sensor use compressed air and blow this (or any) adapter clean before first use.
Cheers,
Sam

What kind of problems are they having?

Chances are they're not mounting it correctly:
"On adapters with aperture control rings, the control ring needs to be rotated to the fully open position (Clockwise for Nikon, counter-clockwise for K and Alpha mounts), before a lens is mounted. From this point, rotating the ring stops-down the aperture."
