New Canon firmware updates provide enhancements to professional video and Cinema EOS cameras

http://www.canon.co.uk/press-centre/press-releases/2017/03/professional-video-and-cinema/

The new firmware provides significant enhancements including added filming options, improvements to workflow, lens corrections and ease of use. The firmware updates are as follows:

New updates for the EOS C700 add extra recording modes when using the CODEX CDX-36150 including 4K/QFHD ProRes, 4.5K Max 100 fps, 4.5K cinescope 120 fps, 422 HQ 10 bit 60 fps, 2K and many more. The new update also enables an option to upgrade the firmware on the CODEX CDX-36150 RAW recorder

The EOS C100 and C100 DAF updates enable peripheral illumination correction data for lenses including the EF35mm f/1.4L II USM, the EF50mm f/1.8 STM, the EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-56 IS USM and the EF24-105mmf/4L IS II USM. The new firmware provides Cinema Servo Lens Support for the CN7x17KAS S*, the CN-E18-80mm T4.4 L IS KAS S* and CN20 x 50 IAS

The new firmware update for the EOS C100 Mark II comprises a shutter angle priority mode which maintains the shutter angle when the frame rate is changed. The update also enables peripheral illumination correction data for the new EF-24 -105 f/4 L IS USM II lens

Updates for the Canon XC10 and XC15 allow support for the VPG130 (Video Performance Guarantee 130) standard for CFast cards

The new firmware for the Canon ME20F-SH and ME200S-SH includes new auto exposure modes including Shutter Priority (Tv), Aperture Priority (Av) and Automatic Gain Control (AGC). Users will now also be able to select Auto or Manual ND filter operation. Cinema Servo Lens Support is upgraded on the ME20F-SH to cover the CN-E18-80mm T4.4 L IS KAS S, and the EF100-400mm F4.5-5.6L IS II USM, EF35mm F1.4L II USM and EF24-105mm F/4L

IS II USM are now also supported by the ME20F-SH and ME200S-SH. A new setting has been added to CP Fine Tuning menu to assist with improved image quality when using Chroma key system. Finally, the ME20F-SH and ME200S-SH can now enjoy enhanced WB settings when the camera is set to Auto and a 25PsF option has been added to support monitor connection and viewing when shooting in 25P

I can't believe Canon actually added the C300/II's shutter priority to the C100/II. Thank god. It was such a pain having the keep changing the shutter angle after every frame-rate change (or forgetting to!). But why not for the MKI? Surely it's not that difficult?

I think Terry's informative and detailed list should probably read that support is added for the Canon 24-105mm F4 L IS USM II lens. If Canon really did make this zoom as fast as a F1.4 I'm sure we would all want one - NOW!!! ;-)

Probably because the C100MKI doesn't have 60p slow mo like the MKII. Only frame rates on the C100MKI are 24p, 30p, and 60i.

Yeah, I think was assumed it was in ref. to the F4 since it is NEW. And, I will add, that lens has little to offer over the Sigma 24-105 Art.

Has anyone with a DPAF C100 1 noticed that the new update (2.0.8.1.00) prevents re-assigning DPAF to Button 7?

Actually, I'm wondering if it removed DPAF from the camera altogether, as there is no grayed out focus box in the center of the LCD. This is a big problem.

EDIT: I forgot that you have to change the AF Mode to Continuous in the main camera menu for DPAF to even show up (and then it's just AF lock to Button 7). Crisis averted!

Just downloaded the 2.08.01 firmware for my C100 MKI. It's strange, in the notes, Canon says, "The EOS C100 camera now lets you manually move the center of the camera's magnification viewing area to one of 25 different locations throughout the image frame using the familiar joystick. While previously the EOS C100 only allowed the center of the frame to be enlarged to check focus and other critical parameters, now the camera operator can easily check focus even on subjects that are located away from the center of the image frame, for enhanced flexibility in a number of motion picture and TV productions."

Previously, the only way to do this while using EOS AF lenses was to turn off manual focus, you could then move the focus box around the screen. In reading the description above and looking at the images Canon posted, I thought I could move the box around with the joystick with the lens in AF mode? But it still doesn't let me do that, it behaves the exact same way as before, I can only move the focus box when I turn off AF on the lens? I am also trying to access and move around the menu using the control buttons on the rear of the camera with no luck either? The buttons seem function the same way as they always did? It's almost like it downloaded and loaded the firmware, it's in the camera but somehow not functioning? I double checked and the new firmware is definitely in place, I see "Firmware 2.0.8.1.00" when I go to the Firmware menu item? Any ideas? I just double checked and with extended ISO on, the camera will go to ISO 80,000 so I think that is a new firmware feature so the firmware seems to be in place but the two features highlighted above, being able to ,ove the focus box around while in AF mode and being able to navigate the menus without the joystick , using the bcontrol buttons on the back of the camera so not appear to be functioning?

*Edit - figured out that the firmware doesn't remap the buttons, I still had to do that manually. But the focus magnification box, still cannot move it while in AF mode.

Canon C100 Mark I Auto Focus

Canon C100 Mark I Auto Focus

puredrifting, here's what i learned when i floated up the auto focus question for the c100 mark i:

This behavior is accurate. The autofocus area of the C100 Mk I is in the middle. When in AF mode, the camera magnifies the central AF-sensitive area. Moving away from that central area would be somewhat confusing and counter-productive, as you would be looking at an area that is not where the AF system is actively focusing.

However, when in MF mode, you can move the magnification box around, since the camera operator is in full control of the focusing.

Thanks for elaborating Terry. Wow, that's disappointing, based upon their web page, they made it sound as if we could move the focus box around. Still worth the update. Do you have any idea of the C100 MKI can now fully control the CNe 18-80 T4.4 Servo Zoom? WHen I had the lens to test, the IS, IRIS did not work with my C100 MKI but worked fine on the C300 MKI? The servo zoom did work with the C100 MKI though.

Note:
Firmware Version 2.0.8.1.00 is only for EOS C100 cameras which have Firmware Version 2.0.3.1.00 - 2.0.7.1.00 with the Dual Pixel CMOS AF Feature Upgrade applied. If your camera’s firmware is already version 2.0.8.1.00, it is not necessary to update the firmware. Once the camera is updated to the latest firmware version, it cannot be restored to a previous version.

If the EOS C100 camera does not have Dual Pixel CMOS AF Feature Upgrade applied, please download Firmware Version 1.0.8.1.00.

I looked at the firmware update page and couldn't find anything in the new update about being able to move the magnification point while a lens is set to AF. I'm wondering if you are seeing an older firmware update description when Canon first enabled the magnification point to be moved while in manual focus mode. I remember when that first happened because it made life so much easier back before DPAF was added. Canon's rational as to why it was never enabled when the lens was set to AF is questionable since you can move the magnification point on the C100 II in either mode.
