C100: New Canon Cine-Servo 18-80mm EF Lens Announced $5225 Pre-Orders @Texas Media Systems

most of our vendors don't save shipments for the beginning of the month, they typically try to get them shipped at the end of the month.

end of october is a more likely eta.

Thanks for the update. For some reason I had September 1st in my head as the release date. Hopefully the October 1st date will hold true.

Damn! Not good Canon, not good. The market was and I am sure still will be primed for this lens. Wonder if they are having manufacturing issues or if it is just more last minute tweaks based upon press reviews of the prototypes? I was still considering buying this lens, but it's looking like I will buy something else but it won't have servo zoom obviously. There isn't really a direct competitor to this lens so it looks as if I will be back to a 17-55 2.8 IS and a 70-200 2.8 IS II. A lot more range and more speed at a lot less money. But switching lenses a lot is a PITA for my shoots and I miss having a servo zoom for subtle creep ins and outs, etc. It's been quite a while since I shot with a servo lens camera and I sometimes miss it.

I just shot this weekend with my F55, with two other friends shooting FS7's. I shot the first hour or two with my 70-200 and then said, "F this!" and put on my HDx35 adapter and my 22x Fuji HD ENG lens. I could have never accomplished what I did the rest of the weekend with still or even cine glass, this side of other $25k-$30k+ zoom lenses. I was also on a shoot today and would have MUCH rather of had a real zoom lens instead of using a Canon 24-105 for the bulk of it, but the other shooter was worried about how it would cut. He had a 16-35 on for his part. I should have stuck to my guns and used the lens I felt best served me, because besides the two of us, there were about 10 GoPros and an Osmo. And I guarantee not a single one of those will match either one of us...

The more I go back and forth, the more I despise using still lenses for video. It's not the quality, it's the functionality.

If Canon would make one more drop on the 17-120 and get it right at $20k-$21K, I would make that my big year end purchase. I was on the fence last December even at it's original price.

Agreed. Once you have shot with servo, it's hard to go back to non-servo. I am cutting my latest demo reel that has several good shots that I did with servo lenses with slow push ins and smooth reveals. There is just no way to get those with my still lenses. I fake it with 4K on 1080 timelines but it's just not the same FOV movement.

The 5D Mark IV will power the Compact-Servo Lens via the EF Mount.

The Servo Control works perfectly.

Unfortunately, Auto Focus and Auto Iris do not function when the Compact-Servo Lens is mated to the 5D.

The Compact-Servo lens was ultimately designed to work with the Canon Cinema EOS Camera Bodies.

What???! lol
Man... and here I was thinking this may be a possibility to use on my FS7 (without the autofocus of course)... but it doesn't even work how you'd expect on a Canon?? Yikes... :/

Again, it was made for the C series cameras, not for the DSLRs......would you really buy it for a camera that is half the price of the lens?....and I'm not trying to sound harsh but this lens was made to take advantage of the features that are in the C100 MK II and the C300 MK II.

The Sony FS5 and FS7 will power the Canon Compact-Servo via the Metabones adapter.

The servo zoom works, but the Auto Focus and Auto Iris functions are not enabled.

I believe this will have to be done on the camera firmware, not the lens firmware.
