Canon C300 firmware version 1.0.8.1.00 is about to be available for download.

I'll post an update when the new firmware is available.

Here's the details:
Firmware Version 1.0.8.1.00 incorporates the following fixes and improvements:
1. Some of the EF lens products that can be mounted on the camera can be controlled more reliably.
2. Corrections to the Spanish and German language texts in the View Assistance function [View Assist.].
3. Efforts to correct image color fringing when a subject is of high contrast have been made.

Note: Firmware version 1.0.7.1.00 incorporates items 2 and 3 above.

OK. Well this is the firmware update that Canon had hinted at. Not much in it really. Im glad the colour fringe issue was fixed but that had already happened in 1.0.7 Other things are of little concern to me. So all in all nothing terribly exciting here.

EDIT: MAC ON THERE NOW

This is great news. I am happy to hear this firmware will be available for download. I really didn't want to send my C300 in to Canon service for the 1.0.7.1.00 upgrade.

Really disappointing. This camera has been out for a year and there have been no firmware updates offering new features or enhancements. The Sony F5 is out in the wild now, Canon should have done something worthwhile for its owners by now. Just little things like zebras below 70%, waveform in the EVF, View Assist LUT on HD-SDI and HDMI output, frame rate accessibility from a user button and wheel. Obviously, something like higher frame rates would have been fantastic, but might not be possible with the camera's architecture. Underwhelmed.

The camera is completely capable of these things, so yes, agree across the board on those quoted.

I updated my C300 EF here in Europe with the US update (got to it first), I think it is identical world-wide... Do NOT forget to back-up your menu settings (custom menu items, shortcuts etc.) and Custom Picture settings first on a separate card - the update deletes them completely.

I hope Canon comes up with a subsequent update and gives us these all needed stuff. Having the waveform in the viewfinder will be great as that will help me shoot without the LCD. When I shoot without LCD people feel I am also another rich guy trying to be a wildlife photographer so shooting with a camera and long lens. These days a lot of corporate guys have taken up photography as a hobby as that is considered to be the in thing. So I can avoid attention and shoot peacefully.

I really want the 50/60 fps at 1080. That is all I want and will use this camera for the next couple of years peacefully.
