New cams! 1080p60! Panasonic HDC-HS700 & HDC-TM700

Can anyone confirm if I'll be able to take the files off the TM700 and drop them directly into a project in Premiere CS5 WITHOUT needing some 3rd party software for some type of conversion?
Absolutely you can, but without some good processing power behind it, any editor is going to studder, or even halt the video preview window. This is where I am at right now using both Premiere and Vegas. I have just started using the Cineform Neoscene (http://www.cineform.com/neoscene/) trial and it does move the preview window along pretty well in Premiere (yet to try it in Vegas), but it does require a transcode to cineform's AVI format. This does not seem too bad a deal, but there is an extra step here and a huge bitrate (large filesize) that come with the AVI files.

There are numbers of actual footage files on vimeo you can download and try. This is what I did a few months back, but now with my own camera I'm looking at everything from a fresh start.

I would hope I have enough horsepower: Xeon 5680 6-core, 12GB DDR3 RAM, Quadro FX 3800, 10k Raptor scratch disk, 10k Raptor OS/Programs, 7200rpm raw video files, premiere cs5. I really don't want to have to transcode anything.

I guess my main question was really concerning the 1080 60p. I guess I'll have to go home and see if I can set up a custom sequence that will create a 1080 60p timeline.

What about for slow-motion? How would I take the 60p files and bring them into a standard 30p/24p project and have them come in already slow-motion?

Your joking right? With the horsepower you have there, I'd expect zero problems with 60p AVCHD files. Most you should have to do is resolve work-flow particulars for what your goals are which would be something you will need to do as you're dealing with variables determined by a multitude of possible scenarios.

I can see there really isn't a workaround for a slower computer using this cameras 60p format. Converted files work, but they come with a list of work-flow issues of their own, so I think the only real way to do this is to upgrade to a higher power editing system. With that in mind, I have ordered my parts last night and will have a powerhouse of my own working within a week or so. But, I went the cheaper route using AMD's new Phenom II X6 1090T processor rather then Intel. I already had an nVidia GeForce GTX 470 GPU and a CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply, so I just had to add the other necessary essentials to put together what should be a nice and powerful editing station. I spent just over $2.2K for what I ordered last night (including 2 free TOSHIBA Canvio 500GB USB 2.0 Satin Silver Portable Hard Drives they threw in), so if any of you have an interest in building something like this, see below for a complete parts list of my soon to be real "dream video editing machine".

"...and a setting that automatically snaps a still image during video recording when an on-camera subject smiles."

This feature is hilarious to me.

And what if there's some dude who has a disease that makes him constantly smile, and you want to try to make him frown in a picture?
