New Camera

I have been in the event video biz for over 15 years. I currently use two Sony DCR-VX2100 and a DSR-300.

It's time for new cameras. Here is what I want:

Light weight
Good in low light
All the standard features of a camcorder (versus a DSLR)
Around $3k
No rolling shutter
Decent HD image (does not need to be the very best/sharpest - my work is about storytelling)

As I research this there seems to be just one choice: HMC-150.

Am I missing any other possibilities?

No, it looks like the HMC150 is tailor-made for you. It's "the last great CCD camcorder". The only other non-rolling-shutter alternative in that price bracket would be the JVC HM100, although I don't think its low light performance is on par with the HMC150. Or, if you want a tape camcorder you could look at the Canon XHA1s. I think that's about it for CCD cameras in the around-$3k price bracket.

Move up to the world of tapeless shooting. You'll love it.
Right now is a great time to step up to the HMC150. It's old enough that it's price is reduced and if your lucky enough to find a good used camera the HMC150 is a very serious pro camera with a great piece of glass on the front for a small amount of money. If I remember right the 2100 doesn't have xlr audio, which the HMC150 does.
Sony has the HXRNX5U AVCHD but it's almost twice the money for a camera that is comparable to the Panny 150.

Whenever the HMC150 goes out of production I think we will need to hold memorial services. So Sad everything is going CMOS.

I've never had to use a "Rolling shutter" fx plugin on my footage. ;)

OP, I say go for the HMC150. I have done a number of event video related projects with it. It's a great camera.

One of my early cameras was a VX-1000- really loved that camera- now that is how I feel about my HMC150. And tapeless? -absolutely wonderful.

Every time I shoot with the HMC150, I love it all the more. Great cam, a true modern classic. Not a perfect cam, but darn close.
