New camera April 5th?

If that great looking new Sony isn't enough, 43 Rumors are saying that Panny will announce a new camcorder on the 5th April. Whether it the Af100 successor or not is anyone's guess...

Based upon the hints through the threads of this AF100 forum it sounds like the big brother version of the AF100 just as the FS700 is to the FS100. We'll know in a couple of days :D

What I find interesting is many times they said camcorders on 43rumors. Sonyalpharumors always said camcorder. Maybe there is more than 1 large chip coming. We'll see.

wow tough tough spec for panny to beat.
features they MUST do.

avc-ultra for 4k - external 3g hd-sdi i guess.. internal recording would probably too expensive.
avc long-g 10 bit 4:2:2 50mbps for the highpeed slow mo or regular video - KEY
DR 11 - 12+ stops
resolution close to c300
useful features like magnify, peaking, etc

So far all the Panny announcements I have seen are for a GF5. Panasonic, the other companies are making you look kinda bad about right now. But I still love you and will give you a bit more time. Hey Barry, looks like Panny is now running last in the race.

Darkhorse maybe?

This is very exciting times we live in. 240fps FHD poo pooing awesome.

Im a panny fan but that sony is killin these past months. Nex5n, fs100, fs700, f3. Damn.

I would be happy if Panasonic made a camera with the video quality of my GH2 with the functionality of my HVX200....
With a price of around $2495

i really hope panny comes out with an updated af100. i have been using panny cameras for many many years but the af100 is leaving a lot to be desired right now.

You would never get GH2 quality in an HVX body for $2500, that's nuts. Look at the functionality of the AF100 and the quality it gives (which is lacking in areas but very good) and it was still $5000 on launch. We'll see what Panny has up their sleeve, but I'm interested in cameras that can actually exist. Maybe I'll be proved wrong, because as harsh as I sound right now...I would LOVE to be proven wrong. :D

It would be interesting to see Panny come out with a competitor to the VG20 at $2500. I really want to see a small camera with removable handle/XLR like the hmc40 but with a large sensor.

Yes yes, AF-40, xlr top handle, no sdi, would be fantastic, and could make the price point. if they chose to go that route. They could also release a 100a with avc-ultra 50 written to sd cards without raising the price point, that would kill. Who needs 4k now. Who needs to pay 3k more for 4k ready without knowing how much the road to 4k is going to cost. In 2-3 years if you actually need that, a newer better body and chip will be ready anyway.

Im really starting to think of camera bodies more like film stock. Esp. compared to the price of 35mm stock and processing. If you can't expense it on your current project, or be profitable in a very short time, then you don't really need it.

I'm really disappointed that sony decided to upsell the new model, and not offer something like a vg20 pro with a proper video chip and xlr. The market for this level of product is huge as shown by vdslr sales, magnitudes higher than top end camcorders. Sure there are some indie/students that will stretch their budgets to reach the higher goal, there are many more that can't. I really hope panasonic will answer for this market.

Didn't Jan already say that there was nothing large sensor coming out, or was that just at NAB? I could have sworn that Barry posted that recently...

Maybe I'm wrong, I honestly think Panisonic thought the af100 was going to such a big hit, that they didn't think they would need to produce another similar cam for several years. I think they may have been blind sided by Canon's new cinema division, and sony coming out with a line up that just keeps getting better and better. And by the month literally. I feel their scratching their heads, thinking, we better hurry the heck up before people forget we exist. I do have faith in Pani, they will eventually come through. but it may take some time, they really don't have. I hope my gut feeling is wrong though.

that was last year. and they brought out hpx250 & AC160
i think this year is silence. mostly out of panasonic is af100 wouldnt be replaced.

so based on comments & hints from people in the know, there will be something from different manufacturers.
i forogt who said it but he said hes aiting at 3 cameras, all 3 from different companies. we know one of them is sony,
the next obvious choixe is panasonic and canon.

Maybe its a lumix series consumer camcorder. Gh2 in a palcorder body with mic and headphone jacks. If it's hackable it could be pretty sweet. The 43rumors article mentioned it was a lumix division announcement.

yeah thats weird right? maybe like i said before it wont be a joint venture but maybe theyre combining? :)

heres my concept cams for panny
AF40
-hmc40 with gh2 sensor, no ND and a port for the hmc40 xlr adapter.
-the new xlr adapter is now also a base plate with holes for rods.
priced at $2,200 for body, $300 for the xlr adapter. you have all the parts available already!

for the big brother af100
just similar to fs700 with AVC Ultra Long-G 50mbps 10 bit 4:2:2. WIN!!

I just read the announcement and it said that they will show "New Lumix cameras and camcorders." Lumix is not the broadcast division. The AF is an AVCCAM. Like dop16mm said, this is probably not an AF/AVCCAM camera announcement, but a Lumix one. I hope that's wrong though, I would love to see what Panny has up their sleeve. I am pretty loyal and will not be replacing the AF anytime soon, but would love to know something about something!

2 days cant get here fast enough.

i read that as well but lumix is the digital camera division. camcorder is the.. well, the consumer camcorder division.
