New camera almost chosen, I need only your opinions :)

Hi to all :). I'm an amateur that is switching from a consumer setup to a prosumer one and so I need your precious advices.
I've already looked at all the camera models that I can buy with a budget of more or less € 6000.
At the end I chose the Sony FS100. Due to the high price of these cameras, before I made my purchase I want to hear your opinions.
I mainly do shorts, but sometimes it happens that I have to record interviews, concerts etc.
So, with all these infos in mind, do you reccomend me another camera instead of FS100?

Thanks in advance

You sound like me!

I currently use a GH13 and put it to great use. Personally, I highly recommend looking into renting an AF100 or higher level camera when the job requires it. I don't think now is a good time to buy a camera if you're being selective with your money.

The main reason I say this is that the RED Scarlet seems to be on the verge of release. Jarred Land (founder of DVXuser) also works for RED - if that says anything about their quality. Check it out at www.reduser.net

Even if this camera is overkill for you and you don't want it (even though Scarlet may fall within your price range), it may force other companies to lower the price of their cameras. People won't want to pay $6k for 1080 60 fps (2k) when they can pay about that or a bit more for 3k at 120 fps.

Now is a great time to lay low and rent gear - I just slide the cost of rentals into my pricing.

I would def recomend the Pani AF100/101 as an alternative but if your shooting concerts single cam neither of these two would be suitable, due to lens limitations. Multicam would be a diffferent kettle of fish though.

If you are a really technical DP with intricate knowledge and epic pixel peeping skills (like my DP), get an FS100.

If you are a fast moving Directorial pixer peep deficient shoot-everything-all-the-time type, get the Af100 with it's awesome little lumix lenses.

My DP bought himself an F3, got so jealous of my fast set ups with the Af100 that he got himslef an FS100. (He calls my Af101 'A cute camcorder'.)

I have the Sony FS100, and I would say if you are a beginner DP wanting to develop your skills, then the Sony will do just that, it is not a camera you can just pick up and shoot with, it's a cinema style camera, and every shot need's to be set up properly, you can't really go off test's you see with it on the internet, because 98% are in-experienced people who just pick it up and press record, but they're definitely a good camera and I highly recommend.

I've got an FS100 and I love it. Just great, amazing stuff comes out of the camera. However, be prepared to budget extra for ND, you will need either a variable ND (I recommend the
Heliopan) or a matte box with slide in filters. If you are going to get bigger lenses, it's probably better to go the matte box route, as you will need rails to support the lens
as well.

Thanks for your opinions, however I've already done my order. I chose the FS100 because I need to make an investment for the future (I don't know if I have enough money in the next years to buy a new cam) and the Sony one seems the most versatile camera in this price range. I know, there's no perfect camera :). Ha, and I also need great performance in low light so ... Sony it's the way :)

Renting is not the solution: I don't know any shop in my city that rents this kind of things. In addition, I'm not a professional but an amateur, so it would be difficult for me to rent a camera when I need it: I often decide at the last minute to shoot some footage so ;) . I don't earn money from my shooting activity, so I'd spend a lot of money in renting then I'd spent a lor of money in a new camera with a lower price. My old camera is broken so I need a new camera. And I'd love to learn a lot so the FS100 could let me learn a lot of things :).

And I don't need to do multicam ... I'm an amateur so I'll never have more than one cam at the time :).

And I can do run and gun with kit lenses I think :)

Thanks to all of you
