New Blackmagic Camera July 16th?

I regrettably agree with puredrifting. I suppose I should be happy about good AF. But it makes lens adapting a more complicated issue, it partly takes away the need for the focus pulling skills I developed as an AC, and we may end up sounding like photographers when we check our footage - "the camera missed!"

But yeah if the P6K had CANON DPAF, I would overlook my other quibbles about it and buy it instead of canon/sony

If they want to take it up a notch and start to take market share from the big three, they have to have viable AF performance.
The era of lousy or no AF cameras, other than high end cinema cameras is coming to a close.

Couldn't agree more. With the R5/R6 and A7SIII launching, I would not consider anything else without FF and good AF.

BMD's the most innovative camera manufacturer IMO,
.

I agree. I just wish they could get the quality control thing right. The reason I have stayed away is the talk of having to maybe buy a few cameras and send them back before getting a good one. :( My F35 is over 10 years old and still works everyday never gave me a problem. I know people say BMD is cheap. But I don't care. I need my tools to work. If they get quality control right, underexposure is no problem etc I think BMD colors are nice and bang for buck is great. I know ursa highlight handling is no Alexa or F35. But if the rest is ok I can forgive this.

I think this is too much for small company like BMD. Look how long they took to just add ND filters. Great autofocus is probably lots of development and expense.

FWIW, I used the BMD UMP G2, the PCC 6K and have my ATEM Mini Pro and all three pieces of gear worked flawlessly although granted, I only had the cameras for a month.

Those stories about quality control issues are very old, from the first generations of cameras. This was fixed already. Their gear is not perfect but it's not any more problematic than that from any other cameramaker.

Announcement in 90 minutes!

I don't know if that's 100% true - I remember newsshooter and others taking delivery of Pocket 4Ks that already had dust on the sensor. Seemed more like the environment of the Production line and not necessarily a quality control issue. And then some weird operational bugs noticed by Andrew reid of EOSHD and others. But those were probably ironed out in firmware.

John Brawley and NorBro say the camera hardware itself has been reliable for them. Personally, I'm ready to take the leap if the product makes sense for my business. After all - their imagery looks better than anything within 5x the price and the codec offerings are 2nd only to RED

Yes exactly. I have read stories about the pocket 4K and ursa 4.6K. So it's not only the old stuff. You don't see that many stories about FS5 and FS7 or Canon for example. Not even close. Almost not at all. So this worries me the stories are true with a few lucky ones defending it. Because they were lucky. But I agree the image looks very good. But not sure I want the headaches with it. Seriously thinking of going with a Canon. Only because of reliability and quality control. But interested in the announcement.

I owned the original BMCC 2.5K and its image was amazing. But it was basically a brick with a shiny screen. BM has come a long way in terms of usability with the Ursa Mini models -- let's hope they move the ball forward even more with today's announcement...

I hear you. I'm only considering Canon/Sony for the autofocus. And a little bit brand recognition. But if they just had good AF, I'd buy BM anyway

The thing about Blackmagic is that they either play the box camera game or try to be a poor man's Alexa. They have nothing to compete with a FS7 or C200. The Ursa doesn't have the ISO and all the features to do it.

Their claim was always that they make cinema cameras, whatever that is. But they need the Swiss army knife camera like a FS7 or Canon C series to really be useful. People who want Alexas will not settle for the Ursa. They rent an Alexa. People who can't afford an Alexa are normally looking for high ISO performance, autofocus etc. So the Ursa is a nonstarter for many people.

I have an Alexa and rent Alexas. If that's too much it means I need a FS7 or Canon C. Not an Ursa because the Ursa is just an Alexa wannabe for all intents and purposes. At least they now have built in ND, which helps.

12K that was long awaited! </irony>

I wonder who they think the target might be?
and btw is the audio of Grant clipping or is it just p0or?
