So I just recently got an HVX. Today I bought two 16 gig p2 cards. The hvx was used. The nle i use is vegas and I still have to buy the raylight plugin. But my question is can i just dump the p2 files onto my hard drive and whenever i get the plugin edit the footage? We are shooting a movie and it will be 2 weeks till i get the plugin. My question is---I downloaded the p2 drives and p2 veiwer, I shot some p2 footage and offloaded it to my hard drive. When I try and open the video content i get a message saying the file cannot be opened blahhh blahhh blahhh..I just dont want to shoot 2 weeks worth of footage, get the plugin, and find out the files wont work...Sorry I am a complete noob and tried finding this topic and couldnt..thanks in advance!

Yep transferred them....I just dont understand this-SO when I get the raylight plugin and open up the contents file to get the video clip to drop into vegas, do i need to go into the audio folder too to get that file? Help we have a shoot tonight and I dont want to screw up! lol thanks

Raylight scans your HDDs and creates .mxf.mov files based on the P2 data it finds. You can tell it to place them in a separate 'Raylight' folder based on your HDD name or in the 'video' folder inside of the 'P2" copy on your HDD.

I recommend you place them in the video folder, its easier to track that way.

In FCP, all you have to do is import the .mxf.mov from the video folder and it will automatically trick FCP into playing the video and audio...like magic.

In the meantime, you should be able to view your clips using P2 Viewer, by setting their folders as "Virtual Cards". If you can't do that, then you haven't transfered them properly. The best method is to create a new folder for each card dump and transfer the CONTENTS and LASTCLIP.TXT into that folder intact, no changes, and nothing else in thet folder, and so on. Then in P2 Viewer, select that folder and you should be able to play your clips.

i still cant view my footage.the files copied over. I know they transferred. But the only time i can view the mxf files is when i have my camera hooked up through the usb2. This is what i did. Created a folder under administrator documents. Dropped the last text and the contents folder from the p2 card into the folder. waited for the transfer.unplugged the camera. Reopened P2 viewer- went under "view" "primary Bin" view only virtual cards" and wallAh nothing. I read somewhere that hd footage wont play back in the view on AMD. Ill just wait and see if vegas reads them after i get the plugin. thanks..

No, Raylight works very, very differently in Windows.

Calix, once you have Raylight installed, all you have to do is find the MXF files in the Video folder and drag them into Vegas. You can drag them straight to the timeline. Audio channels 1 and 2 will be brought in automatically as a stereo track.

You do not need to convert the MXF files. Just drag them straight in. But DO make sure you keep the Contents folder exactly as-is.

In P2 Viewer, go to "Tools" and mount/select the virtual card, before you can view it. Navigate to the new folder you created that contains the CONTENTS and LASTCLIP, and select that, then OK out, and hit F5 (Refresh).
