New 7d owner needs suggestion on "B" cam for clients

Hey guys, I am releasing web based / stream only video instructional content. Music related.

I need for the artist to have a single camera, tripod mountable handy cam, HD, with an easy codec to pull into imoviehd or FCP.

They only need to shoot an hour MAX at a time.

they need line in for sound.

Probably best that it be some type of internal hard drive capture rather than dv tape?

need to look decent at 720p and be AFFORDABLE. I'll need to buy a half a dozen of them to get started.

any suggestions? the last camera of this type I've purchased was a Panasonic 3 chip standard def GV 120... it's been a while.

I need to do this ASAP.

I'm willing to buy used as well, but thinking all the same cam would be good.

anyone got a line on something that would fit the bill that I could look for on closeout?

or?

thanks so much for your time.

If you want to spend far less than $2000 per camera, then something from the Canon HF or HG series would probably be best for you. You can get one for around $1000.

I agree for the most part, I actually have an HG-10 that I use for a B cam sometimes. I did a short comparison of the footage with minimal correction on the HG-10 to make it look similar. You can tell the difference in quality though.

It's not a perfect match but it will do in a pinch. The codec is AVCHD, but is easy to convert to Prores422 on ingest into FCP
