New 5D MarkIII, is this what we've been waiting for?

The reason that professional cameras like the Canon XF305 have really excellent auto-everything modes (even face detection auto-focus) is so that you don't need to be a great doc shooter in order to use them. They are extensively used by journalists & others working alone who don't need to learn how to be camera operators in order to do their job.

I could think of a lot of times it would be a nice feature to have (war zone, natural disaster, etc...) as a doc shooter. I'd just rather not have them increase the price substantially by putting it in my narrative camera.

5D II with VAF5DII AA filter installed vs 5D III. No ML installed.

3200 iso for each. Neutral settings, sharpness/contrast all the way down, saturation -2.

What you guys think? Which one belongs to which camera :D

In the thread link below I posted the links to the COF ( camera original files ) in one of the above screen captures.

The footage looks very clean for 3200 & 5000iso. Impressive.

Lets play a game, in that particular post above, how many of Philip Bloom's faces you can count on the second link?

I can almost be 100% sure that no professional working in the industry as a Camera operator working with Video/Digital Film uses auto focus. That is a feature for point and shoot cameras as well as photo cameras.

In my almost 20 year long career as a cameraman and DP, I've never seen or heard of anyone using autofocus in a professional setting, period. And that includes news, documentary, reality, etc. It just does not happen.

There is a difference between continuous autofocus & a push to focus assist button. Pros do use the latter but never the former.
