New 5D firmware pre-announced for Mid-March

Don't know yet, but in other cameras 24p is always the most-jello mode. The slower the frame rate, the slower the sensor readout happens, and the more jello-y the footage is.

On the 7D there was no difference in readout rates between 24p and 30p modes in my tests. The 60p mode is faster overall, but the per-scanline rate seems to be the same. 1080 just has 50% more scanlines to read...

So I called Canon HQ as well as customer support/technical support about possibly getting the firmware a few days in advance for a huge project I'm doing. No go. The phone operators seem pretty clueless as to exactly when it is going to come out--one even said it's incomplete and hasn't been given to anyone?

Any chance of this thing leaking as a torrent?

bullshit!

Canon rumours are reporting that new MKIIs are already shipping with the 2.03 firmware and some pro photographers already have it. I'm shooting 3 shorts next week one with a 7D and a 5D, I need that firmware! 30fps in Australia is as useless as tits on a bull. I think I might go down to Canon and use the old jedi mind trick.

If Canon marketing are listening prick teasing the very people the update is targeted at isn't the greatest marketing strategy.

I just got my 5D mark ii two days ago (though I ordered it last week). Mine still has the old firmware though. :violin:

Apparently this guy got a new camera with the firmware already installed:

Is extracting the firmware off his 5D and getting it to us before our shoots a possibility? He looks like he's interested.
