New 35mm adapter

Jim, just a heads up that our 35mm Adapters shoot-out/Article won't occur now until Friday/Saturday, Feb. 24th/25th. I just rec'd notification that the SG35 won't get shipped out to us until Monday the 12th, which Ryan (waltind) leaves for Germany the day before (we were hoping to do all testing this Saturday).

So, if you think you can have a workable, final model of the Go35 by then, we'd love to have it in the mix. If, by chance, you can work a Canon FD mount into your build, then we've got several 50mm 1.4 lenses that we'll be using & can work. Otherwise, as mentioned, I have no problem getting a lens that will work for your unit, as long as you (or anyone else here) wants to buy it afterwards at cost + shipping.

We'll have up to 3 DVX100a's side by side, shooting the same resolution chart(s), live model(s), under the same lighting, conditions, etc. Dakotapod's mattebox & the geared Indie Focus will be featured with each model as well, along with Cavision carbon fiber rails, etc ... to see which units will work with what, all of which are in the lower expense range for the average member on DVXuser.

Jim, take a look at the beta clip at time 1:48. That second edge around the plasticware at the right of the screen is a sign that your focus plane isn't seeing enough diffusion. I struggled with the same issue myself...and finally resolved it largely through stepping up the diffusion factor. I think this perhaps is why you've had a few comments on "hazy" bokeh.

The upside to a low diffusion screen is less light loss, but in the moving flavour I don't see a detail gain on my iso chart tests. The kicker is that you lose light, and incur static grain when increasing diffusion levels, and this, I believe, is why all the "big boys" are using moving GGs.

Wayne Kinney's suggestion of using an LED to test diffusion is a good one. I've found that people started liking the bokeh, when a 2mm LED diffused to about 20mm on a diffusion surface held 1 inch away. Now if you've managed to figure out adequate diffusion with less than 1.5 stops of light loss, you've got a winner here. Hope that helps.

You'd think I'd get tired of the "I pity the fool" comments but I swear I laugh harder at EVERY SINGLE ONE!!! And to think I only have that pic cause the rest were crap (puppy dogs and clowns). Mr. T, you complete me. Yes. Complete me.

bklyndv... I feel your pain with trying to get something finalized... and I understand why you started the thread when you did. It's hard to contain your excitement when you see something good coming together. There's nothing you can do about these other companies that you depend on to make this happen.

I just wanted to say that you have another interested member who will most likely buy one of these from you when the time comes. I'll be more likely to buy from you because I admire this kind of passion and enthusiasm. I can relate to what you've been thinking every step of the way.

No pressure buddy... we'll be here when you're ready.

Awesome, thanks for the enthusiasm and words of patience.

As for footage, look for some new stuff to come by this week's end, both from my GL1 here, and assorted DVX footage (provided the weather's alright) using the new Standard ground glass.

I'm literally grinding it at the moment -- took a break to check the forum :)

The Pro is lagging behind, so don't expect anything of it for at least another two weeks. But... I have parts for it here that I'm putting through their paces -- it just takes a lot of time if you want to handle some of these pieces with proper care.

bklyndv, keep on grinding and we wont bump you:thumbsup:
I am just as interested in the Pro as many others in the thread. Kudo's to you.

right on Jim, keep up the good work. just dont forget me when pre-order comes around  .

May as well put my name on the list too. I think I'll go for the pro, but I guess I'll wait till the screen grabs/clips are up.

Been having problems with this board lately -- am I the only one?

Here's some quick'n'dirty footage I shot the other night, with the Go35 Standard prototype. Single 75 watt overhead light in an otherwise windowless room; GL1; 1/60th at f/1.8.

I say quick'n'dirty 'cause that lens has some grime on it :(

Did I mention the second round of test setups is do Feb. 18th? Should be 2-3 weeks after I receive and test them that I will be able to make these things en masse.

Thanks, again, for your patience and kind words.

your shelves are neater than mine! Whats the word on the pro version Jim? Don't want to be buggin but I was just curious.

I'd estimate the Pro is behind the Standard by about two weeks, unfortunately. I've been basically contacting every major optics corporation, requesting and testing samples, speaking with applied optics engineers, etc. trying to narrow it down to the optimal diffuse surface.

I'll shoot some more stuff next week with the Standard adapter, some of it outdoors and hopefully with a DVX, so you can get a proper idea how it looks.

I just got paid a couple hundred dollars for photographing a wedding this past weekend, so there's the money for the Go35.

PS: I'd be happy to beta test for you for those who want to see how it works on a lesser quality camcorder. Haha.
