New $200 wireless microphone system

OldCorpse

Rockin the Boat
This is a new product from a name beloved in production sound industry circles, Azden. Here is their new system, with many features and bold claims:

Here are some features:

1)Rechargeable internal batteries, last 11 hours per charge

2)Very compact and light units for both camera and talent

3)Fully digital hopping with excellent range

4)Super easy to operate

5)The transmitter accepts either line-in or mic input, and has the option of transmitting both simultaneously.

6) A single transmitter can also be synced to multiple receivers

7)The receiver also offers a headphone output for monitoring audio

8)Available from B&H

Azden is a well-known name in audio and one can anticipate corresponding quality. No word yet, if Lectrosonics and Zaxcom, Sennheiser and Rhode etc. have thrown in the towel yet in face of this competition.

smiley_laughing.gif Now I have to clean off my keyboard!

A single transmitter can also be synced to multiple receivers
Now THAT is something that the other guys have NOT offered!

Because of the overwhelming proliferation of cell phone, WiFi and Bluetooth technology,
that 2.4GHz digital technology is so easy to design with these days it comes as no surprise that Azden will jump on the band-wagon.

Their remarkably low MSRP demonstrates just how inexpensive that technology is to develop and manufacture.

I can't tell if you're joking, or if you're serious. I'm hoping you're joking. Because I don't imagine that anyone at Lectro, Zaxcom, or Sennheiser are even slightly worried about anything that Azden is doing. I have never heard the production soundies I've discussed equipment with utter the words "beloved" and "Azden" in the same sentence. Or paragraph. Or even in the same day.

That said, I'm not sayin' this is not a good product. Perhaps it is. But I doubt that I'll be an early adopter.

Azden has produced nothing noteworthy in the microphone department.

But If I can use a different mic on their transmitter packs then they might have a customer.

I love the original post, dripping with sarcasm. I can just see everyone at Lectrosonics sending out their resumes because the writing is on the wall for the future of their company.

But I would seriously consider this as a cheap system for my high school students to beat up on. I might become interested in it for serious use if it works better than I expect in their clumsy hands.

If the "broadcast" mode works as advertised, it appears to be an inexpensive way to send program audio out to multiple cameras.
And/or to the boom operator and/or to the director, et.al. as a poor-man's Comtek system. And digital, at that.
