So I came across something interesting...

This camera seems to be in an odd place with its sensor, it seems that the sensor is a single CMOS sensor with only 1920x1080 photosites... if thats the case theres no way this camera would be able to output 4:4:4 so I'm guessing that the specs are only showing the recorded or outputed resolution, if I'm wrong... well how the heck would this camera have a good image?

Anyway I LOVE the form factor, nice solid build looking too. Seems to be the same eye piece as their other line of cameras.

10bit 422 uncompressed internal recording via 18gig internal hdd, and optional 444 out, as well as 1.5/3g output standard.

The other big question is price... where the heck will this camera be placed? I'm guessing somewhere in between F3 and RED. I dont think it will be Alexa priced for obvious reasons. My bet is 25,000 body price. If it shoots awesome footage, I'd finally be swayed to dip into the whole IMS camera mount system and maybe even go with their Digital 35mm lens package.

In 4 days I guess we'll all know, just figured most F3 owners would be interested in checking this out.

My guess , this cameras price will be on Alexa range , not under 40-50K definitely..But looks like a amazing camera..lets wait and see

I really would think that would be a huge mistake for them if they priced it that high... its specs are not great, not by a long shot. It literally has the same specs as the F3 except for the highspeed option and internal hdd. No way worth a huge price for something already in the market at 14k

It cant compete in the resolution world since its only 1080p (not even 2k) and theres no way the dynamic range and sensor beauty will be anywhere close to an Alexa, so pricing it at such a high mark would just alienate it. I still stand by my estimate at around $25k base price, maybe 30?

450 fps? Nice....

It's funny from the angle shown I can only see one green button. Man, talk about stripping it down!! Love the form factor, harks to the beloved Aaton designs.

I truly wish for 25k range and i agree the specs are not identical with Alexa, not even comparable, but i remember the 35mm adapter days, the most expensive one was from P+S technik, and it was around 6.000€ while the other was around just 1k..

footage in 4 days, and yes you are right about PS being the most expensive adapter, but when you look at their other camera line up, they are reasonably priced for specs. I think the SI2K was priced right, I didnt see anyone crying about the prices on that camera at all. I think that the PS35 adapter was over priced because it cost them a ton to make it. It would just be bad marketing if they were to put a camera out with the same specs (except for high speed) as the F3 and then say by the way we priced it to $50k +.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see, if its $25k and produces F3 quality footage or better, you might catch me selling the good ole' F3 :-o

Most likely. I mean, that's the same issue that the F3 and FS100 have -- they both claim 4:4:4 output, but have nowhere near the minimum required number of photosites to create an actual 4:4:4 image.

So likely there is some piece of the puzzle that we haven't been told yet.

I had owned fully loaded Varicam setups and hpx500 setups that easily came in at 30lbs or more, so 15lbs is normal to me. Plus what is with all the negativity about weight? Its a professional camera, not a toy. It will most likely be the same quality build as an actual Arriflex/Aaton camera. I see no problem. You know how much a fully loaded Sony 9000pl weights in at?

Gorgeous design. Aaton meets Alexa but as Joe says, "15 lbs". That is a very important figure and limits the way it can be used. Just love the design.

15lbs that's nothing. How would that be limiting? I've seen all kinds of cameras stuck in all kinds of crammed or funky situation. Anything can be done somehow.
We should only be so lucky. From one of these to 15lbs....Large camera.jpg

Let's start placing our bets!

I'll guess $58,000

Who would want it for that much $$? It would need to have 15stops range and have some real nice features, nicer than an Alexa and somehow I doubt that will happen. Arri has really won the camera wars, again, and I dont see anything other than the reported F65 topping it soon... with the F3 being the best bang for your money I think.

15lbs is feather light. Weight IS good. It gives you stability when operating.

Exactly, specially with CMOS sensors, you need stability. Its fantastic for shoulder mount work.

Thats exactly how I feel, it would have to out shine the F3 by A LOT and be at the same level as the Alexa (which is not an easy task) for them to price it anywhere near the Alexa price. This wont compete with RED simply because people who want red want resolution... this doesnt have it. The F3 with S-log will be 14 stops of DR, and have 4:4:4 pretty much everything that this x35 camera will have all for $16k. I see a very limited range of people wanting to buy this camera if it were to be priced high, and it would be a shame for the company given the prices of whats coming out now.

P+s technik does not live on the same planet as us, closer to $100,000 than anything you are thinking of. They are a Niche shop that makes great products, I dont think they will jump to mass market to be able to get the prices one would hope for (like 20k). Also remember this is 450fps uncompressed.

My guess is stripped down weisscam, rebuilt and repurposed. Still expensive. $50k would be a bargain here (to them).

but who the heck would spend 100k for a camera from PS when you could get an Alexa for around half that? I just dont think they are that stupid to price so high. And for people wanting high speed, theres phantom cameras... I still dont see a price point for this camera in an already filled market unless it was in the 30k range

I think a lot of people got confused with the alexa cost (including me)- in USD its quite expensive http://www.abelcine.com/store/ARRI-ALEXA-SxS-Module-Pro-Set/ (yes has a few cards but...)

Sorry to be the bearer of badnews about pstechnik, but really... high end, really nice, niche gear- for niche markets- I dont think we will ever see something with mass appeal unless something bad happened to them and they sold the company. Wish I could believe otherwise, Just trying to save you guys disappointment : )

the Alexa body is 67k, I priced a kit out because I was interested in buying one (from a different dealer), I already have Cards and batteries and lenses so the price is pretty much at that range. PS makes super quality built products, but I dont think they are very much known for their dynamic range or beautiful images from cameras. The SI2K did some great stuff, but it wasn't overly wowing and had a crappy workflow. and their high speed cameras are well... high speed, they are always super expensive no matter what company you;re getting them from. But why build something if you're only going to be looked over by what else is out there then?
