Keep in mind the DVX100A was launched with *no* official leak, no showings at trade shows... the only advance notice we got at all was some "inside info" posting on a Japanese website. Panasonic just sprung it on us. So they could be hard at work on another version, but there's no way of telling. It hasn't even been a year since the DVX100A was released, so it seems unlikely that the DVX would be due for an update... but you never know...
Also, the development time for these cameras is probably pretty long, so while they may not be announcing anything, I'd expect they started working on the next version as soon as the A was released.
Panasonic stole the momentum away from sony because sony rested on the PD150 for too long, much like how sony stole the momentum away from Canon because Canon rested on the XL1 for too long. It's a tit-for-tat business and now that there are three serious players, I can't imagine any one of them isn't in heavy development right now.
I would expect something at NAB, but I always seem to expect stuff at NAB and lately nothing exciting ever happens... its always the little shows cool stuff gets announced.
I think that we'll see a new DVX model at NAB 2005. They just extended the Magic Bullet deal until March 2005 and NAB usually falls around April, right?
Well, lets hope they have true 16:9 chips and up the resolution at least to match or exceed the XL2 and something I've been thinking about for a long time... I know some will say "this is a post production issue", but what about a DVX100B which has different settings that emulate Kodak film stock.
Setting 1: Reversal Film,
Setting 2: Bleach bypass,
Setting 3: Daylight balanced slow speed,
Setting 4: Dayling balanced high speed,
Setting 5: Normal
Setting 6: No Grain
Setting 7: Low Grain
Setting 8: High Grain
Setting 9: Nitrate Black and White
Or even settings like "Spaghetti Western", "Lord of the Rings", "Saving Private Ryan", "Pharmaceutical Commercial", etc..
I mean after incorporating a true 16:9 chip and bringing up the resolution, what else can you do to improve the camera. Any suggestions folks?

How about fitting DVC Pro 50 on a MiniDV tape? Would that even be possible somehow? 4:2:2 color sampling in a sub-$4000 prosumer camera? That'd be cool. I'm not holding my breath, though.
More likely, we'll see the next DVX sport 16:9 high -res CCDs and maybe P2 solid-state storage cards, or maybe a hard drive recording system. Removable lenses? Hmmm....
DVCPro50 on MiniDV tape (30 minutes) and true 16x9? Heck, I think I"ll pay $6000 for that. It would be woth it though. But It"ll never happen. Too bad!
to improve on it, definitely lanc remote specs. plus maybe secondary flash disk storage and HD resolutions ?? either HD or super 16 film emulation look.

Uh, Ernest. What would "Pharmaceutical Commercial" settings look like?
