Negotiating Prices on HVX + Accessories (local retailer)

I am looking at picking up my HVX200 + a bunch of accessories from my local retailer, Professional Video & Tape (Authorized Panasonic Dealer).

I was wondering, does anyone know if there is much room to negotiate prices? Any stories of great deals you guys have gotten? I try to negotiate everything, especially when I am purchasing a handful of items as I know there is markup on all of them... for example, Pro Video/Tape currently has a deal where if you purchase the HVX200 + an 8gb P2 card, they give you $200 off that combo (plus you get the free 8gb card). So if they give $200 off that combo, there's obviously some room.

My not-quite-final purchase list is in this thread:

But based on that as an idea, how much room is there to negotiate? What kind of deal may I be able to get?

Filmguy.

We paid full bore for a HVX200 from the same company in March. Also full bore for a hard to find 8Gb p2 card. Today, specialized communication sells the HVX200 with the rebate card for about $5300 plus batteries and free shipping.

Show that offer to that Portland company and see if it will match it. Each vendor is different.

But to ask how much room doesn't really wash. Each vendor is different.

All you can do is ask, "can you match that price?" And if not, what can you for me with the other items.

No body can tell you how to negotiate. All they can do is provide pricing and let your skills take over.

yeah I negotiate on everything. It may vary a bit from vendor to vendor. Pro Video/Tape is largest supplier in NW so they must have some more room I would assume. Just trying to see what kind of deals others have got (just like you should do when trying to get bottom line on a car, ie below invoice). Thanks for the spec-comm info.

I think that AVS out of San Diego would be good to contact as well. Talk to Barbara Lange... you can get their info at www.avsupply.com. I hooked a friend up recently and she sold him the HVX for 4799 and gave him a great deal on supplies. I bought my HVX from her and she was awesome to deal with...didn't push anything on me and helped to steer me in the right direction on a few other items. Great experience all around and they are an authorized Panny dealer as well.

Justyn - wow, $4800? How many thousands did he buy worth of accessories? I am wondering what some of these larger retail chains actually purchase the camera for, that's a good discount.

Anymore ppl out there have negotiating success stories from purchases at local dealers (or even from working with sales over the phone?)

Why don't you telephone Barbara at avsupply and see what she says?

That would be a good starting point to get some leverage for talking to another dealer.
