Hey Guys,

I have an awards night to run in about 2 weeks and can't work out how to present it on the night. They venue has a rear projector and a 4x3 screen. I have shot and edited the material in 4:3 PAL 576p. Now i figured i could go out S-Video and into the projector then run extended desktop? The trouble is on the night i need to display a still frame of the upcoming award while the speaker is talking then it play a video including an intro for the catagory plus 3 finalists, then go back to the still frame prior to the videos. Then this procedure repeats througout the night.

My question is how is the best way to manage the way my content plays on the night? e.g Show a still then a video then back to a still without looking sloppy?

Any help would be great! :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

You could author a DVD with menus as the stills, and then video clips in between - use an invisible "play" button in the menu, so you just hit [enter] on the remote to step forwards.

Or use Powerpoint with embedded videos .. that way you can connect with VGA or DVI and get a better picture too.

Thanks Mikko,

I had thought of using Encore. You can obviously have multiple menus as the stills right? That might just work. I tried using powepoint but i couldn't get the video to fit the slide correctly. I look at all the settings but still no good.

Full-screen video in PPT is a little ticky, but once you know the trick, it's easy :)

Yes, you can have loads of menus on a DVD .. There is a limit, but I can't remrber it off the top of my head. Maybe it's 99 or something like that...

Could you please share the PP trick? i'm using 2007

I still use 2001, but the idea should be the same...

Insert a "movie" from a file .. If find PPT likes .WMV files best.
When asked if you want the movie to start automatically, choose "yes". (this will start the video playing when that slide is shown).
Then, manually scale the clip to full screen, just like you would any image. Notice that you can stretch your image in either direction, so pay attendion to the acpect ratio - drag from the corner points only.
Set the slide's background to black, so that if the aspect ratios don't match; it'll simply letterbox.

That should be it. Now when that slide is started, you should get full-screen playback in the correct aspect ratio.

Build in the other slides of your show around it and you will be set.

I've done exactly what you suggested but your scaling the video up which means it's going from 100% to 150% or whatever which = pixelation. It's going to look crappy since your taking it beyond it's 720 x 576 resolution. Well that's how i understood it, please feel free to correct me if i'm wrong!

The projector scales up it's video input to it's native resolution too.
The only question is what will give you the best uprez? Powerpoint (probabaly not) or the porjector?
Or you can uprez the video in your NLE before exporintg, and export the WMV at the right resolution for the PPT / Projector.
