Need Recommendation in Mike

I need to try and capture the audio of a coxain in a crew boat. I plan on using my DVX100 and imagine I should use a shotgun mic. Best options??

Are you shooting from the same boat, or are you in a chase boat or on shore?

Wireless lav would be the best, with the shotgun in the other channel for ambience.

Or, if you're shooting from shore and have the budget, rent a parabolic (such as a Big Ears).

for some shots I can be in the coaches launch - but frankly it's pretty bumpy... for others I will be on land. Had not thought of the parabolic? what do they typically rent for? and if I need it on a Saturday I assume that is a weekend rental? I'm a noob just trying to learn and I appreciate you taking time to respond.
