Need real fast help on deciding on a rig

I'm shooting a feature very soon on a 5D with a Juiced Link and a Red Rock FF and Z-Finder. I really need a shoulder rig for my DP that allows him to operate using the Z-Finder. I'm also concerned about the height of the rig with the Juicedlink underneath. Can anyone make some recommendations and quickly?

Any advice is greatly, greatly appreciated.

Hey man,
I can speak out for the redrock direction. Since you have the juicelink under your 5D, it will raise the camera much like a battery pack would, so i would suggest getting an eyeSpy balance with the straight offset option (http://www.evsonline.com/redrock-micro-eyespy-balance-dslr-rig-bundle.html). The straight offset is designed specifically for the 5D and 7D with battery packs, but the juice linked should compensate for the same height.
Another option is to just get the balanced with the riser offset, and just mount the Juice Link to the actual shoulder pad which can be attached with provided screws.

If you are pressed for time, I'm not sure what the current lead time is from redrock, but I know EVS, which is the site i linked you too, has them in stock and ready to ship today. Just call and tell them exactly what you decided as they would need to change out the riser if you wanted to go with the straight offset, as that is not the standard in the packages.

Thanks, Maca. I neglected to mention I'm looking at like <400 dollar budget for the actual support rig. I do have redrock rails already, but I'm not sure if I can use those in combination with the rig.

okay that changes things a little, i also forgot to mentain the main problem with attaching a juicelink under a DLSR (or a battery pack for that matter) you would need to buy a micro riser and another set of rods to make the follow focus reach the newly heightened lens. So i would suggest in any configuration to mount the juicelink elsewhere.

So for <400 you have a couple options you can either:
A) get a redrock micro shoulder support (without rods since you already have them) for 468
(http://store.redrockmicro.com/Catal...Mount-for-35mm-Adapters-Bundle-Patent-Pending)
with an offset arm for $107
(http://store.redrockmicro.com/Catalog/DSLR-Clamps/microLink4-riser)
This would bring you nearly $200 over budget though.

B)The ultraCompact from indie systems
(http://www.indisystem.com/products/ultra_compact)
I've had no experience with any of there gear, and have heard of recent shipping problems, but that seems to be coming with this industry, just too high of a demand for this stuff.

C) Any sort of non rod shoulder mount system that you may be able to find, and than adding a redrock micro hot shoe clamp with a set of small rods so that you can hang the follow focus upsidedown from the top rods.

Redrock micro has also showed off some of their "nano rigs" which are single rod economical chest mounted systems, that you could also add that top shoe to to use. Not a shoulder rig, but a stabilization non the less. Here is me awkwardly discussing them at NAB; http://vimeo.com/10931620

Mac,

If I were to go with the redrock setup (shoulder mount + offset) I'd be able to use the 5d/ff/z-finder on the offset rails, shoulder support on the right rails....Do you think I'd be able to find a way to mount the juiced link to the right rails?

This rig seems very front heavy. Has RR any system for counterweights?

Yes, there is a counterweight system, on most of their DSLR shoulder rig it comes standard. Id suggest getting the eyeSpy balanced with the flat riser and mounting the juicelinked under the camera. This would than require the micro rise and another set of rods though which can get rather expensive. The only way to eliminate the extra set of rods would be to mount the juicelink else where keeping the camera at its original height (this would than not require the straight offset so you'd want the riser one)
It is possible to mount the Juicelink onto the rod clamp (http://store.redrockmicro.com/Catalog/microShoulderMountClamps/microShoulderMount-Rod-Clamp) which is located on top of the shoulder pad. You would than just need to run a wire from the juicelink to your camera, the standard one that it comes with should be long enough. So in the long run, ideally you get
eyeSpy Balanced with micro4link Riser option, which is a total of $1,044 http://store.redrockmicro.com/Catalog/DSLRShoulderMountedRigs/eyeSpy-Balance-DSLR-2-0-Rig

wow, if your budget is $400, then redrock is about the last (technically 3rd last) place you want to go!

Just search for dsl 7100 on ebay and go from there! Or check out his other rigs. It's modular, your DP can configure it to best hold the gear (just like Z). Plus I've heard he delivers fast from Korea. Just bought my own 7100, lookin fwd to it.
