Need Quick Help with Speedbooster from Metabones

Hello,

I just got my FS100, 2 lenses and the Metabones Speedbooster Adapter.

I got the Tokina 11-16 and a Canon EFS 17-55 lens.
With both of them I got problems:

- The Tokina lens fits properly, but I got a huge vignette until
I zoom in to 16, so in the end it is simply unusable unless I film with 16 mm
and therefore I wouldnot need this wide lens.
When I hit the "Iris" button I am told that this is the wrong lens for this function.

- The Canon 17-55 simply won't fit the adapter at all. Why??

Can anybody help me?

Thanks a lot!

Isn't the speedbooster intended for full frame lenses? The EF-S is for aps as far as I know (and protrudes a little behind the bayonet), and I'd guess the Tokina is too.

Recently there were loads of articles that the Speedbooster is even better than the usual Adapter
for the Sony FS100. I was told there are no disadvantages when using it.
The disadvantage seems to be that you lose the most recommended lenses for this cam.
Anybody made experiences with the Tokina 11-16 on the Speedbooster?

Thanks

Speed buster is good for someone who has stock of full frame lens . Tokina is nice but I do not know how is gonna behave with SB . Metabones gives info about full frame lens but nothing about crop .
Any way at now we have much more way . For wide angle I am thinking to get zeiss 12 mm f2.8 ( e-mount) which should be in couple months . Other hand I have chance to get zeiss 18 f3.5 ( ZF) for very good price 650 eur . Zeiss 18 + speed buster can give me nice wide angle and f2.8 . I do not know what to do ,get zeiss 18 or wait for 12mm zeiss ?
The worst thing , Metabones do not confirm all zeiss lens works with speed buster .
Confirm zeiss :
15 , 21, 50 f2 ,100 f2 . What about 18 ? , 50 f1.4 ?

You were right, I just got info from Metabones:

"Our speed booster only work with FULL FRAME Lens (EF Lens) not support corp lens (EF-S, DX lens) you both lens is corp lens
If you don't have Full Frame lens, you can send back with Full packing & in NEW condition for refund or exchange."

Problem is that I already had to pay customs and shipment and now have to pay double shipment if I send it back.
So I am thinking about keeping the adapter for lenses I am maybe going to buy in the future (like Canon EF 70-200).

For my lenses I ordered R.J. adapter for 1/3 of the price and think this fits my need better.
Was a bad and costly decision I took with Metabones. My fault, not theirs, of course.

Yeah... just to enhance what you said... the Tokina 11-16 is indeed a recommended lens for the FS100... but that is out of the box. Consider it a compensation for the lack of FoV because of the chip size. FoV-wise your Tokina would resemble a 22-32 on a fullframe camera, and therefore the natural choice for the Speed Booster would be something like the 24-70 or prime lenses in the EF range.

In short... don't send it back. The Canon L's are great and even greater now they can serve their purpose. The new 24-70 is supposed to be amazing for a zoom.

You're right, thanks.

In fact, I can even use the Tokina 11-16, but only the 16 mm end.
Do you think this could do any damage to Speedbooster, cam or lens?
From 11-14 I will have a huge vignette when putting the Tokina on the speedbooster,
but the 16 mm end seems to work from what I've seen so far.

I read some place else that he had tested it to work for 15-16mm. But consider this.... 16mm before you had the Speedbooster would be the equivalent of a 24mm 2.8. Now you in some way have a 16mm 2.0 prime. Wider than that can become a bit artistic or too wide for most applications.

If you won't shoot for the Canon Ls maybe consider the Samyangs next? With the Speed Booster those would now be quite nice (given some testing to make sure they don't go soft or get too much CA). What is a 1.5 in SB terms... 0.9 or something like that?

Gonna be hard to find a lens wider than 14mm thats going to cover FF without spending a ton of money. The 24mm 1.4 would be an amazing lens to use with the speed booster, Not sure if you really need < 14mm unless you want the most wide shot ever.

My tokina 11-16mm run well @ 14mm with speedboster but i have to remove the camera lens Hood and be care about infini focus. can you confirm your too?

The reason why you get so much vignetting is because 11-16mm is equivalent to roughly 8-11mm with the speed booster. It's basically a fisheye lens. If you put 11-16mm lens on a Canon 5D for example you would see the same problem. The lens you want to get is something like Canon 16-35mm or equivalent. It will turn to 11-16mm with a speed booster.

It is the same with mine: from 14 to 16 mm it works (without lens hood).
I am not yet sure about the focus, need to do some tests outside.

So you donot think that using Tokina 11-16 with the speedbooster could harm the speedbooster or camera?

Yeah Speedbooster definitely doesnt work with EFS lenses or any non-full frame lenses.

I have used the speedbooster with my 11-16 and agree it does work from 14-16, but I already felt for my purposes 11-16 is too wide and distorted for most moving shots, so now with the speedbooster, it becomes a ~10-11.4mm lens which is just really super wide and even more distored. It can be useful, but only if you want a bit of a distorted superwide perspective...

Are you saying the 17-55 EFS lens doesn't even fit on the speedbooster's mount? I would expect optically the adapter would work with pretty much any full frame lens, mechanically you could attach just about any lens in any mount with a flange focal distance longer than Canon EF, and electronically it should work fine with nearly every canon mount lens. All lenses will have been designed for a particular imaging format, so just make sure the lens you are getting was designed for a full frame camera/imager before you put it on the speedbooster. It is possible certain lenses like the 11-16 which are designed for APS-C might work at certain focal lengths, but it is probably not common.

I would be surprised if all of the Zeiss ZE and CP.2 EF mount lenses didnt work on the speedbooster.

Every EF-S lens has a rear protrusion preventing it from fitting on an EOS full frame camera (e.g. 5D). Wouldn't fit on SB either.

Conurus... NYVZ mentioned the CP.2s. Do you know if those will work with the EF mount attached? That would make them a killer set... Almost takes away the nuisance of them not having the same T stop values.
