Need Help

A friend of mine just shot a short using the HVX. He has all the clips on a hard drive. This is a description of the problem he has via email

"Need your help. I've got some scenes from the movie that turned out to be corrupted. Seems that my AC was taking the cards out too soon and some of the files never got completely "set". I can see the thumbnails and the files are on my hard drive. But every time I try to import them into FCP, I get a "corrupted file" error. I bought "P2 Log" to see if that would work, but I still get the error.
So...i checked some message boards, etc. and noticed that many people
had the same problem. One of the proposed solutions is to relog the
files back onto a P2 card, check them in the HVX camera to see if they work
(they should) and re-import them back onto a hard drive."

I'm lending them my HVX and they are responsible for the P2 cards which they intend on sending the footage back to the HVX (is that possible?). If the clips are not joined will this solution work?

Might need to use a PC

Might need to use a PC

Well as they are using FCP that means they are on a Macintosh. So far, I've yet to see anyone successfully copy data back to a P2 card moutned on a Macintosh. Someone gave some kind of half description that if you use copy and paste instead of drag and drop that will work (at least that's the solution I understood from his post). I believe I tried that and had no luck. The problem being is the P2 card shows up as read only on the Mac. Then you do a Get Info to adjust the permissions and you can't, its stuck as read only (even if the write protect is turned off on the card itself).

Now then, Barry has said he has had absolutely no problem using the P2 card as a normal data hard drive on a Windows box. Basically if Windows will see the card then it'll let you write any data you want to it. So perhaps they will need to get the footage onto a Fat32 drive first, take it over to a windows station, and then do the transfer. Or perhaps some can now give a detailed description of how to make it happen on a Mac?

cheers.
