Need help with spanned P2 clips and FCP!

I'm posting this again because unfortunately, I haven't been able to figure it out, and I only got one response to my original posting :(

I'm using FCP ver. 5.1.4 on a G5, and I can't seem to properly import my spanned clips. Everytime I add them to the queue, FCP goes through the process just fine, but then they don't appear in my project bin. I can import all my other P2 files with no problems, but for some reason the clips that span 2 cards won't show up. I did import both pieces of them at the same time, but still nothing.

To add to that, I've tried using the raylight demo to see if that helped, but it wasn't able to find ANY of my MXF files. I'm guessing this is because the demo is apparently limited to clips of 10 seconds or less, but I don't want to purchase the software if it's not going to solve my problem. I'm running way behind on this project, and ANY help would be greatly appreciated!

what is your P2 downloading process?

For downloading the cards to my HDD I use my windows vista laptop and just drag and drop since I wasn't able to install either p2cms or p2 viewer. I did make sure to transfer everything, all the folders, all the files, and the lastclip file. I don't connect the camera, just put the cards in the pcmcia slot if that makes a difference.

And for importing the transfered files into FCP, I've just been trying to do the standard Import P2 option.

I've tried just about everything I can think of to get it to work, which isn't much really. I'm no computer wiz, and I'm not quite a FCP wiz either. I did just recently update FCP which makes me wonder if there's some obscure setting that I have to change that I'm not aware of. I did look through the FCP help, but didn't find anything that helped.

It sounds like if it is only effecting spanned clips it has to do with the metadata that would link the two together. If you still have the original folders created from the P2 just transfer them on to your G5 and then open with P2CMS which is free and runs on Mac. Don't open them on Vista. You may need an external hard drive to facilitate this but getting one is a good idea anyway for backup storage.

I already have the files on an external Hard drive. I don't have the original files on the p2 cards anymore. I will definitely try running them through p2cms on my Mac and see if this does anything, but I thought it was just for pulling mxf files off of a p2 card. I don't really want to move them from my external hard drive though.

I tried opening them through P2CMS and it split each of the 2 clips into 6 10-minute clips after the ingest. I tried to then import all these clips into FCP and although they all showed up in the import window, only 4 showed up in my project folder after importing. I tried it again several times, restarted my mac, and tried again a couple times, and still nothing. I'm tempted to buy raylight, but I don't know if it would solve my problem.
