C100: Need help with live green screen using C100/C300

Hello all,

I am working with young people using my C100 and C300. They want to do a little open day to get more people involved with the scheme of which we must have an activity.

I basically want to have a green screen set up, with the live key'ed output on a TV. So as simple as a static jpeg of space, which the kids can jump around in and see the instant result on the TV.

I've never done any live-streaming and don't really have specific kit for it. I have my green screen, C100/300 and a fairly decent laptop.

Does anyone have any advice on the easiest, cheapest and least CPU intensive way of doing this?

I’ve done numerous demos for young and old with a C100/HDMI out, to Blackmagic Ultrastudio Mini, out via Thunderbolt 2 to Mac laptop or desktop running OBS. Display output of the Mac to a large display facing the talent.

A little finicky to set up, but it all works reliably! OBS also gives you the option to flip horizontally, so talent sees the mirror image they’re familiar with.

Can I get away with a cheapo USB2.0, 720p capture card? https://tinyurl.com/y5p2ar5v

I'm only going to doing this once for about 45mins and don't want to spend a lot of money on a capture card.

Also is OBS the best option? Is there something like Chroma Key Live but for Windows?

That capture card is pretty inexpensive, but you’d need to try it out. The question is whether your keying software recognizes it as a source.

OTOH, 720p works against a clean key. Resolution helps!

OBS is not the best solution, but, the price is right! It’s certainly good enough for live demos. Its keying is quite limited, but it does work.

A good key is really about the blocking and the lighting. Here are the basics: Good subject to screen distance, say, a minimum of 6’ / 2m. Lighting the screen evenly, and independently of the subject. Good backlighting to help define the edges of your subject.
