I'm editing GH1 footage for the first time and can't for the life of me figure out how I'm supposed to use these MTS files. I was told that you just use log and transfer but whenever I drop the files into it it just tells me that it's an unsupported file structure. Can anyone help me figure out what I'm doing wrong?

You may be missing the codec on your computer to play the files back. Try downloading the Klite codec pack which can be found on Google.

It would be helpful if you indicated what you are using for editing software, and which version. From the phrase 'log and transfer' it sounds like you are using Final Cut, but there are some number of versions. I used FC Express 4 which eventually did do 'log and transfer' on AVCHD from the GH-1. However, you have to set the directory in 'Log and Transfer' to the 'PRIVATE' level the file structure that is found on the memory card, or if you archive on a hard disk, the entire card contents from the top down (basically drag everything from the card's top level into the Harddisk folder).

This should allow the FC "Log and Transfer" function to work correctly.

You can not directly import the naked MTS files into FC, at least as of FCE 4, and I believe that is true for FCP 7. Have no idea about FCP X...

Sorry, I'm using FCP7. I looked for klite but couldnt find one for mac, so I downloaded Perian and that didn't work. When I try importing the whole thing from Private down it just tells me that the folder contains unsupported media or has an invalid file structure. When I try to import the whole card, nothing happens.

You need to transcode the MTS files to ProRes in order to edit them in FCP7. Use FCP7 or even better, Toast to do this. It takes some time.
