I agree with that. First time really driving my own "bus", want to keep the route simple. Next time I'll try to notch it up, and there on and so forth.

I would block the character action/movement to mask a line cross. Move your main character around. Since you're using an object you could also utilize a transfer shot to give the camera more freedom to move.

Fantastic idea. I hate to be so vague on what I'm doing, but it'll be seen soon enough.

That red dot can't move in this specific shot. The red dot is an old lady and she doesn't move very fast... think that's the best way to put it.
 
aram is right.. you never crossed the "line"

but (like with everything) story trumps all and if there is a significant reason for crossing the line, then do it.... or dont do it.... key is (IMHO) to learn all the rules before you start breaking them. And once you do break a rule, make sure there is motivation for it. When I was coming up in school (art grad) I was always attracted to the dadaists and the fluxus artists because they went against the grain. As I got older I realized that going against the grain is a wonderful thing, as long as theres something behind it. Or a reason for it, in which, can be a very powerful tool. Again though, anything over-used becomes a gimmick.... that goes for the "breaking the rules" law.

steven katz has 2 pretty rad books on these kind of technical subjects, cinematic motion and film directing shot by shot..... also mentioned earlier.... the 5 cs of cinematography.... aswell as a little gem called "sight sound motion" which really goes into scientifics, optics, etc etc etc

If the line is drawn from left to right like in a tennis match, then by moving to the other side, isn't the line effectively crossed?
 
Not sure if this will help but the way I see it, you can cross with a dolly / pan move. Here's a quick vid I put together for ya in poser/premiere.
