Need Help with 1080i/24p in FCP6

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased an HVX200a and over the last couple of weeks have been familiarizing myself with the owners manual and the camera itself. Recently I shot quite a bit of test footage in 1080i/24p, and as I began to work on that footage in FCP6 have run into a problem. All of my footage is extremely jerky and has very prominent interlacing lines showing up on the screen, and when I say prominent I mean prominent (I am no video expert and it hurts my eyes to watch it).

Here are some specifics...
- I shot in 1080i/24p, in video cam mode. Everything was in auto
- I used my camera as a 1394 host and transferred the video from the card over to an external hard drive
- When I go into mcr/vcr mode in the camera and look at the clip properties it shows the v_format as being DV100_1080/59.94i and the Frame rate as being 59.94i
- I have tried using pulldown as it said I would need to in the HVX book, but that didn't seem to change anything
- Messed around with the audio/video settings and easy set up, but again to no avail.
- I have worked with some other footage prior to this both in 1080/30p and 720/30pn and everything seemed to work fairly easily, so I figure it has to be a problem with the specific settings for 24p

So I was wondering if anyone could help me here... What steps do I have to go though in order to work with the footage in FCP6 and not have it look like this? What should I set my audio/video setting to?

Sorry if I left any information out, if you need something more I will be more than happy to get the info for you, I just need to know what to look for.

Cheers,
Ryan

You needed to shoot in 24pA, not 24p. FCP can't remove 24p standard pulldown automatically, and if you try, you end up with a mess (as you see).

You'll have to use Cinema Tools to remove the standard pulldown.

There are a couple of very recent threads on this topic exactly -- do a quick search on "Cinema Tools" and "pulldown."

Cool, thanks for the help. I did a quick search and downloaded MXFX to do the pulldown because I am not familiar with how to use Cinema Tools yet.

So it looks like everything is working now that I have used the proper pulldown. And from now on if I shoot in 1080/24, it will certainly be in 24pa

Now that I realize what I should have been searching for in the first place I am sorry for spamming up the forum. Thanks again for the guidance.

Cheers,
Ryan
