I"m looking to get a rail system going for my GH1 so I can outfit it in the future with things like a mattebox and use larger lenses and be able to move my camera system from shoulder mount/tripod/handheld. I'm not really sure how to get a good QR system going from my shoulder rig, to my tripods, to handheld. The Zacuto gorilla plate looks like a nice option which I could use along with a Jag35 gorilla baseplate kit and pop the camera in and out of that realyl easily. But my GH1 doesn't work well with a z-finder unless you glue the frame on, so the gorilla plate would be just for mounting purposes, is that overkill? And if going to my tripod I'd still need to attached the QR plate to the gorilla plate to mount it, is there some kind of plate I can attach to my tripod that works with a gorilla plate and makes it a QR system?

Another question I have, is when buying a rails system like this http://jag35.com/store.php/baseplate.html and mount a mantrotto QR system like this on it http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/241139-REG/Manfrotto_577_577_Rapid_Connect_Adapter.html and then place your DSLR inside a cage. When all of it is mountted on the Jag35 rails system, the camera must be raised up another 1 or 1.5 inches even higher above the rails, is this okay or will it cause problems?

The rail system might come with its own quick-release, but it's not a huge deal. I leave the rails and mattebox and follow focus assembled with my camera, and have a quick-release plate on the bottom of the riser for mounting to my tripod. When I'm shooting hand-held, I have the handles and shoulder pad. When I need to go to the tripod, I remove the handles and the shoulder pad. But the camera is always mounted to the rig.

If you end up going with an EVF or external monitor route, you can look at Redrock's microShouldermount. $200 and it acts as a mounting plate for the tripod, a mounting plate for your camera or other pieces of kit (via 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 screws), and a shouldermount all at once. It's very handy and incredibly well-built. But it does not offset the camera for you to use your Z-finder.
