I recently purchased an hvx200a and i don't know how to offload my p2 card from the camera. I know to hold down the button that switches from record mode to playback until the screen turns blue but nothing pops up on my comp. i got the camera used so i am thinking that it didn't come with the correct cables. If somebody could give me some step by step, and even include where on the camera to plug it in to my comp, I would be very appreciative. I am dieing to edit some of the stuff i've shot. Thanks for any help I get in advance.

what kind of computer are you using?
have you downloaded any drivers?
there isnt really a "correct cable" its either usb or fire wire. which are you using?

You have to hold the button down for at least 2 seconds until the PC lamp lights and the screen turns black (not blue). You are still in the MCR mode.

And make sure that the PC MODE menu setting is set to the proper mode for what cable you're using (either 1394 Device for a Mac, or USB Device for Windows).

i didn't realize that i needed to download a driver. and i don't have the usb cable. i plugged in using a firewire. And I also tried using this dynex ieee 1394 card that plugs into the p2 slot. I am not even sure what the card is even for. The original owner included it with the camera. It comes with two firewire ports on the back. Do you know where i can download the driver?

If you take a peek at page 82 of the HVX200 manual, there are pretty detailed instructions.
my camera didn't come with a manuel, which is proving to be a pain. I downloaded the driver, and my card at least comes up now when i plug my camera in. I open the icon, and i have a few options. Two of them are clip and video. I figured that those are the footage on the card. the video is locked mxf files and the clips are locked xml files. How do i use these. I tried to open them in final cut. And i moved one of the xml files to my desk top and i can't even delete now because it is a locked file. Thanks for helping me figure this out.

great! then everythings working.

optimally, what you'll do is once youve got the camera connected and the card icon on your desktop:
1. create a new folder on your desktop (or on external drive or wherever you plan to store your footage) and give it a name relative to what youve shot i.e. "family_picnic_card01"
2. double click the P2 card icon to open it.
3. select all (contents folder and lastclip will be selected)
4. drag those to your newly created folder (will take several minutes to copy)
5. eject the P2 card by dragging the icon to the trash then turn off your camera
6. in FCP go to FILE > LOG AND TRANSFER. once the window is open there is an icon in the upper left of a folder with a plus sign. click that and navigate to your newly created folder and click open

BE SURE that your camera is powered off ANYTIME you connect a firewire cable. otherwise its very possible to fry your firewire port.
