Need help matching Libec head to tripod

I just received my Libec H22 head and as I suspected, it's set up for a 75mm leveling base. My tripod, a Gitzo 1348 MkII, has a flat top so I need a converter to mount the Libec. I've checked B&H and there seem to be a lot of different adapters that might do it but I thought I'd ask here. Forgive the iPhone pictures :)

If I can get leveling, that would be great, otherwise just a way to mount it. I'm looking for the least expensive solution that will work well.

Thanks in advance,

Where did you get your head? I ordered from B&H on July 10th and I'm still waiting :( I called yesterday and they said 2 more weeks?! For it to get to them?

I contacted a local Libec dealer yesterday, but I still haven't heard from them.

I believe Manfrotto makes an adaptor for about $70 that would do the trick. It takes the "leveling" out of "leveling base" however.

I got it from B&H. It was your replies to my earlier post that convinced me to go with the H22. I'm surprised you haven't gotten your by now!

I figured that Manfrotto would probably have something. I'll check and see what I can find.

Cheers,

Cancelled B&H order today. Local dealer says Libec has them in stock in CA. Drop shipping one to my door-step. Expected Friday, maybe Monday at the latest.

With tax, it ended up costing me about $20 more, but I had the cheap cheap shipping from B&H (Which takes a LONG TIME to Utah), and this way I'll get it much faster than if I'd paid for $20 more worth of shipping from B&H, so I'm happy.

I've had lots of good experiences with B&H! But I'd think twice before ordering one of their "Not regularly stocked" items again. It sounds like I was going to wait for a head to ship (Ground, no doubt) from California to New York, so they could receive it, repackage it, and ship it back to me in Utah. Sometimes it does pay to shop around! Plus I got to buy local.

This was all through a shop I hadn't delt with before, MediaRight. They took good care of me, and I'd recommend them to anyone, especially if you're in or around UT.

I'm looking forward to your experience with the H22/Feisol combo as I own a LS-22 and been looking for some lighter weight sticks.

saaby, do update. Been waiting for your impressions for some time. The Feisol should not be too different from my current Velbon or the future Gitzo I intend to get.

I'm still wondering if a TH650 will do for me instead.

Hello yslee, I've owned the Matthews version of the TH650 and while it was a good tripod to use along my hv30, I was limited to static shots when using my hpx170.

eL ProduceR, what was the issue with the HPX170? Too heavy for the head to pan smoothly?

Well, the hpx170 is a tad heavy for the head, there is no enough drag for smooth pans or tilts and there is no counter balance. This is a good tripod for small camcorder and DSLRs, but for hvx/hmc I would spend a little more

My setup arrived, and I promptly whisked myself out of town. Still out of town.

I just glanced through this thread, I'm not 100% sure if the O.P. ever figured out how to make it work?

You will probably have to create your own adaptor. The Libec head uses a Metric bolt. M10-1.5 -- as opposed to the more common thread-size used by Manfrotto, etc.

I haven't really used the head with my Feisol tripod much at all yet. I have used the head on a InsiSlider. The results are just so-so so-far. The shortcomings are not in the Libec head, however, which is fantastic -- the shortcomings are in the way that the head has to mate to the IndiSlider. I should be able to remedy this when I am back at school in a few weeks and have access to high-accuracy metal-working tools.

Great update saaby! I would be interested in some pics if you could. I have the LS-22 setup and while is lighter than my previous setup I'm still looking for some lighter legs to go with the head.
