I am looking to buy a new DSLR. Here are my needs:
1. I have a budget of about $1,400.
2. I want to use this as a second video camera on shoots (I already own the Sony EX1 and a Letus and shoot short films).
3. I need it before I go on vacation in 2 weeks.
4. I also want to use it as a video camera for vacation (home videos) and as a still camera for quality family photos/portraits.
5. I already own a 2.8 28-70mm Nikon zoom and a 1.4 nikon 50 mm prime lens. They are the manual type that I use on my Letus. I would love to be able to use these on my new DSLR if possible because they are pretty fast and would give me shallow depth of field that I love and the ability to work with less light.
6. I want to be able to edit in Premiere and/or FCP (prior to version X).
7. I want to shoot in 1080 24p.
8. I also have a couple of slower zooms for my old Nikon D40x. Not sure if these lenses will benefit my new DSLR (just thought I would throw that in).
Here's what I have been looking at from B & H:
1. Canon EOS 60D DSLR Camera Kit with Canon EF-S 18-135mm Lens http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/732048-REG/Canon_4460B004_EOS_60D_DSLR_Camera.html
2. Nikon D7000 DSLR Camera (Body Only) http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/735002-REG/Nikon_25468_D7000_DSLR_Camera_Body.html
Thoughts:
1. Canon 60d: PROS: I heard it's easy to manually control in video mode, takes great stills and has a swivel LCD screen. CONS: A lot of talk about moire issues on DVXuser from Canons and would I be able to use my old Nikon lenses with this camera?
2. Nikon D7000: PROS: I assume I could use my old lenses with it, right? I also heard it takes great stills. CONS: I heard it is a pain to manually control in video mode.
3. I have also been looking at the Panasonic GH2, but I think it's out of my price range. I heard it takes great video, but is not a very good still camera. Could I use my old Nikon lenses on it? Is it more than $1,400?
4. I also see that Sony is coming out with new DSLRs, but I doubt they will be out in time for me.
Any other cameras I should look at in my budget? I am not trying to start a war here. I just wanted to give you my specific information and see what you think will do the job for me. I really appreciate your time. I always learn a lot from DVXUSER. Thanks!
