Hello to all you esteemed Nikon Users,,, can some one please give me a direction on which DSLR to go for...
I am a video guy and have been shooting a lot of video with the hacked Panasonic GH1s..
I have done a lot of time lapse with these and for 90% of work they are perfect, but I need a full frame sensor to get some of those amazing astral time lapse shots of stars for a client...
Everyone seems to be using the 5DmkII for this, I am curious to know from users if the D700 has the same low light capabilities and time lapse control ability as the 5D..
I have some Sigma AF lenses and a heap of Nikon AI lenses that I use with a M43 adaptor on the GH1, so would like to go Nikon to take advantage of my lens collection..
As I am not fully informed in the DSLR market can anyone give me an unbiased view as to which road I should go down...

I look forward to hearing from any experiences and would love any video links to night time lapse on Nikon...

Cheers

Dude - the D7000 is an APS sensor cam, roughly the same size as a T2i/60D/7D... to get a Nikon with a full sensor you'll be spending the big bucks.

Why do you need a large sensor for time lapse of skies? Widest lens ain't wide enough? You could rent a very wide lens for far less than buying a full sensor body.

Well dude!! my add states D700 not D7000 wich I thought was a full frame sensor, My question relates to the low light ability to get images with minimal noise...
My main question is simple.. Can A nikon D700 give the same low light image compared to the 5D or is the 5D far superior..

If it´s the old 5D vs the D700, I´d go for the D700. If it´s the 5D MKII vs D700, the canon is way better for that.

I've owned both for the last three years. The D700 is plenty capable for your needs in that application!
