Need Advice: How to Mount Mic and Monitor to HMC40

I have a 5 inch IndiPro monitor which I currently mount on HMC40 hot shoe. When I buy an external mic, how can I mount both the mic and the monitor to HMC40? I have spent some time browsing B&H and have not found anything (probably because I am not using right search terms). I know forum members do these things so would appreciate links to necessary hardware or ideas you have used.

One thought I had was to find a length of metal channel stock where channel is same dimension as hot shoe mount on HMC40. I could drill a hole in that metal piece and mount it to HMC40 using bolt holes normally used to attach the handle to HMC40. Then I could just slide the monitor into this device on one side and attach it using monitor's hot shoe mount, and then do the same for external mic on the other side using its hot shoe mount. Apologies for unclear description, but I hope you get the general idea.

Another option I don't like as well is to find some device that I could attach to Manfrotto 502 HD flat base video head I have (it has some accessory bolt holes on video head body). I don't like that as well as either the mic or the monitor will be in awkward position--I guess I would mount the external mic on the HMC40 hotshoe and then somehow mount the IndiPro monitor to the 502HD video head?

One thing I found that I don't much like is an Israeli style articulated arm such as the one at following B&H link

I could mount monitor to my video head using this I guess, but it looks bulky, awkward and prone to flopping around. I would rather have something more rigidly mounted to HMC40 that I could in turn use to mount mic and external monitor using their hot shoe mounts.

I have an L-bar similar to this one that I use from time to time, usually with a light mounted to it while a mic is in the cold shoe on the HMC40's handle. It works ok, but the lcd can't quite flip out all the way when I have it attached and mounted to the left. If you're using a monitor mounted to it, though, then I guess that it wouldn't be a big deal, as you would be using the monitor instead of the camera's LCD most of the time.

Did some more searching and this device (in B&H link, Cool-Lux MD3000) is getting closer to what I had in mind. It is aluminum so I guess I could bend the "arms" to separate the cold shoes if either the mic and monitor interfered with each other, but that might get tricky and the cold shoes could end up at weird angles.

I have one of those, and I've maybe used it twice...at most. The arms are too close together to have anything substantal attached to them. It seems smaller in person than it looks in the picture. I'm not sure that it would hold up to an attempt to flex the arms farther apart, either.

Wesley, thanks yet again for sharing your experience. Saves me wasted effort just to know, for example, that the Cool-Lux MD3000 arms are likely too close to function well for me. I have a friendly "neighborhood" hardware store that I may visit and see what I can make myself once I get some ideas in mind. Dennis
