Need a new Microphone bracket...

So... someone who will remain nameless lost the microphone bracket for my AF100 when they borrowed it for a last minute shoot for an ongoing documentary project we have (I was hired on something else that day, so sent them with my camera so i did not have to cancel my other shoot I already had lined up)... anyway, now I need to have another one ordered (the whole assembly that screws onto the handle). I am guessing spec-com is the place to find it, but can I order it directly from Panasonic? Does anyone know the part number, and even better, have any links to it that I can send him to order an OEM replacement? Thanks for the help!

The mic holder I think is the same as the 170/200 which is about 40 at specc comm. I had forgotten to attach mine to the af100 so i used the one off my 170. Part is vyc0890.

They're not that good anyway... I tossed mine and use a rubber donut for an old Softie shock mount.

But you can buy a piece of rubber about 1" x 4" at Orchard Supply, punch two holes in the center for the 10-32 screws, cut two larger holes at opposite ends for the mike to slide through, mount the rubber strip - with a 1"-2" aluminum plate (also from Orchards) over it for support - then bend the ends out and fit the mike. It might take a couple of tries to get it right, so buy enough rubber to experiment. I use a leather punch for the small holes and a piece if thin-wall tubing with the edges filed sharp for the microphone holes - bang it with a hammer. I've probably made it sound more difficult than it is.

Frankly, no mic mounted on the camera is really any good, lol. I appreciate the advice, but I just dont want a DIY job on it, especially that I find myself using it regularly, and when I do I usually need to get the mic on and off quickly to go from camera to boom or whatever reason, not to mention the mic holder also doubled as a great strain reliever for the snake my sound guy runs me on larger shoots. I also don't want an aftermarket one and lose one of my camera shoes (need those for lavs or comtex, can only velcro so much to the handle).

Anyway, I find the OEM one handy, and want it replaced with an original one (especially as I was not the one who lost it). I am not an overly obsessive anal equipment guy who worries about resale and whatnot more than shooting by any means (kinda the opposite, as the 1600+ hours on the meter of my under 2 year old HPX will tell you), but I hate missing parts, and really try hard not to lose things. I even still have the little easy-to-lose™ XLR caps for my HPX (and I actually use them too, lol).

Thanks, i am going to look there... Anyone know of where I could get it from panasonic?

Oliver,
You're looking for two parts if they lost the adapter as well, the part numbers are as follows:

VYC0936 - This is the actual Mic holder
VYC0890 - This is the small riser piece that screws onto the AF100 Body

The mic holder for Panasonic cameras has been the same since the DVX100 days. DVX,HVX,HMC,HPX, AF, all use the same two parts.

If you want to order direct from Panasonic, here is the link:

Good luck!

Damn, I figured it was not going to be cheap, but $110 for both... ouch. I appreciate the link. Luckily (for him) I just got a call saying he found it. Glad to have the resource now to get it and to know the price if someone ever loses/breaks it <knocks on wood> (and to remind them that it is more expensive than it looks, lol). And I thought $50 for the HPX lens cap was bad...
