Nebula Rangers!! (oops, its on a GL1)

LOL Oh my god that was funny!!! I burst out loud into laughter and my roommates had to come look at what I was watching. That was great. That was also some pretty good CGI compositing dude.

Really impressive effects, but why does the explosion in the foreground of the shot of the whole earth cast a shadow? Wouldn't explosions cast an anti-shadow, releasing some sort of "light"?

I'm glad you asked.

It's a not a shadow, the growing black circular shape is actually the effects of a 'nanite weapon'. This evil device creates an ever widening field of molecule sized robots which re-align all existing molecules into a soupy dark grey 'in-between' matter. Thus, the black circle is actually the 'new' , dead surface of the planet. It's a planet-killing device, basically.

The explosions are from a fight that is happening outside of that event, a ship fight that the Earth survivors are having.

Goodbye, Earth. I hardly knew you.

So, yes, that's that. (wow, it felt so good and nerdly saying all that explanation)

Any other technical questions I'll be glad to answer. Just let me fix the tape on my glasses.

Oh, and thanks to everyone else for all the nice compliments. I can't wait to watch all the sci-fi contest films!! Arrgh! When do we get to see them!!
(I've seen MacGregor's.. it's the coolest..)

Ah, that explains so much. I should've recognized a nanite-weapon explosion when I saw one, but c'est la vie. Also, good luck with the tape on your glasses. I have never gotten it to sit just right on mine. I like the concept of the nanites creating useless sludge as well. So often you have these boring, unoriginal villains who use nanites to turn the good guy's weapons against them, but all out destruction is so much more mean. Kind of like salting the enemy's fields, but much more hardcore.

Also, let me commend you on the title of "Nebula Rangers." It strikes a nice chord. Perfectly ridiculous, yet oddly respectable.

Thanks for the goodwill. In a return gesture, "bc5431" will be a respected name (or number) in the mountain bases of Nebula Rangers, forever!! (or at least until they get smoked by the next wave of robots)
