ND Tests

That's a good question, is there any good resources for ND filters out there? I was about to order this set as well, but now I just don't know. I'd like to find a set that has a minimal color shift if possible.

Anybody aware of objective tests regarding color cast comparisons among brands of ND filters? Bob gave us great real world test of one set of filters, but given the pervasive use of ND filters (including most pro cameras include built in ND filters) there must be some that impart minimal color cast?

I have read about ND filters in HMC40, but am I right these are not optical filters but are "virtual" filters--done by electronically adjusting gain or something--so would not have color cast (unless cast introduced by gain)?

I'm back from a 2+ week trip.

I got to thinking about the reduction of green with the ND stack and realized that fixing in post isn't going to be as good as making an adjustment in the camera; maybe save it as a scene file #2. This will take more testing, and will need to wait, I have A LOT of video to edit...

Bob I just ordered the nd 0.9 from B+W, the multicoated version ( I had another version ) I know stacking filters is no recommended, but
3 stops should solve most situations or at least will place you close to the ideal settings under hard sun light.
It shoul arrive in a couple of weeks, and will show you examples, The guys at Schneider told me that I should be surprised about the color

Felipe, In your note you say " The guys at Schneider told me that I should be surprised about the color." Could you expand a bit please, does it mean they don't expect any change to the color (a good surprise) or there will be a big change in the color (a bad surprise).

I just received a single coated B&W 0.9 ND filter from B&H --all they had available in 43 mm size and I was in a hurry to get it. Is this the version you mention in your note that you had before---if so did you not like it for some reason? Somewhere in the string of notes about ND filters it was mentioned that if you could only get one ND filter the 0.9 would be a good option which is why I thought I would try that one. Dennis
