ND Noise

Hi, filmed an interview today and after reviewing, released the footage had very blocky noise in the blown out areas (we filmed in front of a large window). Does the ND filter create gain/ noise. This has happened to me once before. Just want to make sure it dos't happen again. I don't think I had it set to peak either. Thank god I had my 7d

Could you post a screen grab? I have a hard time visualizing how there could be noise somewhere that is blown out (no detail).

maybe is you have the nds on and its set the camera to auto exposure?
