ND Filters for Canon DSLR

Any recommendations for either a set of 52mm ND filters, or a variable ND filter?

Ideally decent quality, but nothing that will break the bank (to be used on Canon non-L glass).

Thanks for the info Samuel. The softness was my main concern. Looks like (cheap) variable filters are usually more headache than you bargain for.

so basically Samuel, you found that the light craft workshop make your image softer but it is more convenient. And the Tiffen doesn't have softness problem but it does give a green tint?

Combine a CPL with an LPL and you'll have a variable ND filter. I used B+W and have been perfectly satisfied. They're 77mm and I use $2 Ebay step-up adapters for all the lenses I use.

Exactly. I would just add that the softness issues with the fader were horrible on long lenses, not much so on wide anges. I didn't even look for a color tint in the fader: since softness was unacceptable for me, I didn't even investigate this. Finally, the green tint of the Tiffens, for me, is not a big problem: it only means I have to use manual WB (the kind where you take a still of a white card and use it to define white, which adjusts both ºK and green-magenta), and that I have to reset it if I add or take away some ND filtration.

yeah, one reason I have decided to sell the light craft workshop is because of the softness. I love my lenses and I can't see the point of getting a sharp lens then putting a filter over it that makes it softer. After I get mine I think I'll do an official comparison between tiffens and LCW
