AC90: ND and low light

One thing I've worried about with the AC90 was the lack of a ND filter. But seeing some of the outside footage the camera really seems to hang in there. Some of these night scenes look good too. (If they were really shot with the AC90.) I remember Barry Green's vacation video the AC90 does a great job outside in bright sun light.

I have been slapping a ND2 on mine and its been pretty good almost all day outside. The first video seems very well graded (or they have a solid scene file). The 2nd Vimeo video is in German and I wish I understood it, but it has the AG-AC90 look too me.

The guy who made the boat video said this: "I didn't change too much out of the box. I used Scene 6, Master Ped -1 and Cine-like gamma D and shot everything at 50p with a Polarizing filter. Graded in Davinci Resolve"

That Boat Festival footage is indeed gorgeous. A polarizing filter would definitely be a useful accessory to get for this camcorder.

Yeah I asked him what scene settings he used. Now I want to know what factory default scene file 6 is! I redid all mine. Davinci Resolve grading looks very well done. I need to get that free version!

Hey Steve
I'm wondering if you do run n gun style shooting with that ND setup ... EG: Weddings. Can you go from full sun into the shade ...? Can you go inside and leave the filter on ...? How easy is it to remove the filter on the fly ...?

With the teeny sensors and ISO 50 rating of the AC90, there is no way you'd want to leave a ND filter attached when going indoors.

I am not going inside and outside that much, that unscrewing the ND is a problem. I could see if you have a lot of mixed indoor/outdoor settings you would drive yourself nuts trying to put one on and off. I think someone mentioned a magnetic solution, which I read about somewhere else and that may be the solution for you.
