Native 24P/25p settings/problems discussion

LOL! As I was saying...

Grrrrrrrr......

Here is what Cineforms Neoscene is doing

neoscenebug.jpg

Something is wrong with it's de-interlace mode...

Yep Pappas, that's what i posted in the other thread. I use cineform just to transcode interlaced to interlaced. Neoscene has always had poor deinterlacing, i leave that function for Sony Vegas after the transcode.

If there is heavy motion, it's really bad.

Just for e record, I've had no issues with the c settings and native 24p and cineform to turn it into prores for awhile now.

I'm racing to hawaii tomorrow, I'll let you know in two weeks if I saw any trouble with lots of shooting.

With Native your wouldn't- It's Cineforms Neoscenes de-interlacing that's messed up...

Man, that's wrong for them to pass this off on people...

I don't even see those chroma settings in Neoscene..

I see:

Quality; high
I frames only (checked)

Output frame format:
maintain source format
deinterlace
convert to 24p

And those are all of my settings.

I just viewed the converted video and it looks OK to me. The file details show Progressive so I know Neoscene did the pulldown/deinterlacing step.

VLC player can't play the Neoscene AVI so I can't get a screenshot of it.

Chroma Fix- I call it chroma smoothing- 24PN is safe ( need to check )- just not the 24 over 60i pull down removal..

ah. Mac.

I'm a PC.

:P

So when you use Mac Neoscene that produces a MOV file right?

When I ran my MTS through neoscene I get an AVI file and I don't see these strange artifacts. I just ran my file frame-by-frame and I don't see the artifacts nor do I see anything change from frame to frame.

And David Newman always sidesteps the question when asked about it or suggests upgrading to the next level (more expensive) cineform product.

Seriously, he's doing that? Pushing the upsale to customers...

Is this only a Mac issue?

yes they become .mov files.

Pappas, could you, please, somewhere leave just 1 or 2 seconds of your original interlaced clip (from the camera) with the red car? I would like to check what could be done with some other tools.

Hmm I'm wondering about that. I sold my mac a while back so I can't test them side by side now.

Anybody else have both a PC and mac (and neoscene for both) that can test them on the same files to see what comes out the other side?

I'm about to upgrade to the latest PC version released July 4th so we'll see if anything has changed.

Ran the same mts file through the demo version of voltaichd- it rendered it out fine. So it's definetly a Cineform neoscene bug in the pulldown system.

Question is, will Cineform fix it?

Btw voltaichd allows Mts trimming before rendering now; and preview. That's cool!

Report it to David Newman and see what answer you get.

I'm kind of lost on this thread. I keep reading about all these issues folks are havig with native 24p but I don't see them in my cam. I've only applied one frimware upgrade to my camera (over a week and a half ago....right after I got my cam) and I don't have any problems recording or playing the files back in cam. The only problem (if you want to call it that) is when trying to download footage via the accompanying software. But I just close it and drag&drop my files to the PC just as fast with no problems.

Unfortunatley I can't remember what settings I punched in with PTools. I think they were 50, 52, 60 with with native 24p and GOP set to a lower number ....like 8 (or something like that). I know this doesn't help anyone...but it is what it is.

Hey Ian. Go out and shoot a detailed static shot of a nice green tree that fills the whole frame using a tripod and see if you can record for three minutes with no errors. I'd be interested to see if you get any errors or not. What brand and class card are you recording on?

Hey Filmkid2003...I'm using a SanDisk Extreme 16GB Class 10 that states "Up to 30 MB/s* . 200X" (of course we know it doesn't really go up to 30MB/s).

But I sure will give that static test a try as soon as I can.
