National Geographic-Earth explorer desert adventure

The shots are amazing, no bones about that. But blatant advertising ruined this for me. Oh, he shoots standing up. Oh, he shoots laying down. Oh, he shoots from a monopod. Oh, he clears the lens. Oh, how cute, she shoots with a pocket digicam, great pictures, eh? Oh, two very clean, young, smiling white people show blessings of civilization to lowly aborigines. See, buddy, this is called a CA-ME-RA. A DI-GI-TAL camera, not some old-fashioned film-loaded stuff that British colonisers left to your granddad. See how I load the compact flash into it? Smile, I gotta get a good shot, I spent a ton of money on this adventure trip, I want to get my money back, so you better be smiling.

There are truly great shots in this video, professional work. But as a complete message it is just too patronizing, for viewers as potential customers, and for indigenous people, who were used in this video as stand-ins for cute puppies.

I know that people will shout back "CAN YOU SHOOT SOMETHING LIKE THIS? NO? THAN SHUT UP!" But I think they will be missing a point. I have a problem with this video as a VIEWER, it does not work for me. It is way too "promo". OPHERBA said that this video will be played in NG exhibitions, kiosks, etc. I think he wants to know what a reaction to this video would be. So, this is what my reaction is: great visuals - bad message.

I understand where you are coming from and I felt the same way a bit. The message was definitely a distraction from what I was interested in, the beautiful images.

That being said... Look at it this way. This JOB enabled him to travel somewhere beautiful and do something he really enjoys. I'm happy for him and I would take up an opportunity like this in a heart beat.

Wonderful job! One question, did you get any overheating? lol

Congrats on the most worthless post on DVXUser this year. Your user name suits you.

LOL @ CRANKY maybe he was fooled by the thread title and felt that he hadn't gotten his money's worth. You should have put Nat Geo Bag Ad

Awesome images, great work.

I gotta ask, who is nat geo trying to appeal too? the suburban newlyweds? I have a feeling any serious adventurer would roll their eyes. But hey, if it sells gear then who the hell cares.

Wonderful work. You're a talented storyteller.

Any info you can provide on your technique would be appreciated. For example, what tripod did you use? Your pans are very smooth. For the rest, were you just hand held or did you have a Zacuto stabilizer?

As many have said, thanks for sharing.

Peter

Dear friends.

I would like to thank you all who took the time and watched the video.
Please accept my apology for being slow to answer some of the questions asked in this thread.

I am challenged by the 7d on daily bases shooting my latest documentary project (hope to share footage soon).

Regarding the NG video:
Hope you will have few seconds and take a look at some production notes I posted here: http://www.dslrnewsshooter.com/2010...graphic-earth-explore-desert-adventure-on-7d/

Thanks again!
