Could be from any law enforcement agency...FBI,CIA,DEA you name it...

personally one of my best is

1-DONNIE BRASCO
2-The departed
3-Miami vice-remake

I am assuming you are not including military/spy flicks...

The Callaghan Top 3
#1 Serpico
#2
Reservoir Dogs
#3 Donnie Brasco

Reservoir Dogs

Donnie Brasco

Can't think of a legitimate third so I'll throw in Point Break.

Well, Serpico was probably the best and one of the first. It was early glimpse at Pacino in a role before he started playing Pacino.

Donnie Brasco has got to be up there. Like Serpico, based on a true story.

Then I'd have to say The Departed. As far as I'm concerned, it eclipsed Infernal Affairs. The same can be said about Reservoir Dogs (a close fourth) and City on Fire.

The Departed
Reservoir Dogs
Fletch :)

Mods: Should this topic be in the Film Discussion section?

I'll have to think about this one some. Ronin might be on my list. Would La Femme Nikita count?

Hong Kong and asian cinema have different sensibilities...much like how a Bollywood film has to have those ridiculous dance numbers (something that North American cinema stopped doing back around the late 1930s...except for musicals).

I think most people find the North American version better mainly due to cultural differences...like the no swearing in Hong Kong films and the no talk of sex or showing any really limits their ability to portray certain characters and aspects of the underworld correctly.

Show me one undercover cop who doesn't have a mini-breakdown in a film without swearing left and right...(and I'll show you a Hong Kong film.)

Top 3...

1. Serpico (the real Serpico was/is wackier in real life than Pacino will ever be)
2. Infernal Affairs (great story, plot, good twists, smart use of identity as theme)
3. Donnie Brasco (another great portrayal of a true story)

The Departed and Reservoir Dogs get honourable mention as remakes.
