NAB "Show *****" Day - You Tell Me What You Want To See And I'll Make It Happen!

Is there a Samsung booth? Can you grill them about Samsung NX1-LX rumors and future firmware upgrades for the NX1?

Okay, gents. I'm about to head down to the show floor. I've got notes on everything you've asked for to this point, and I'll do my best to report back after lunch (local time). Any other requests will have to wait until later this afternoon.

***** out.

I'd love to see an overhead picture of the new StingRay bags from K-Tek (they made some revisions) for 633 and 688... i.e. what does the organization look like?... If you wanted to go deeper (which I don't expect you would) I'm curious what they'll list as improvements?

More than that... I have two questions for Lectrosonics. Is a wide-band SRb in the foreseeable future? Will an SRb bought new TODAY be fully compatible with the Sound Devices SL6. The Lectro site says people can send in their SRb starting in May for a board upgrade to be FULLY compatible (key word, "fully", because in the SL6 you can change frequencies, etc. through the 688).

And as others have said... I'm always curious what's happening with LED technology. Currently the most interesting LED light is the Jab Hurricane, by AAdynTech, but the pricing is beyond anyone but the highest end buyer, rental houses, or networks... so... what's trickling down? What about LED fresnels? Any advances there?

Finally... Edelkrone always has really interesting stuff... anything new and exciting from them?

Anything HDBaseT. I think Sony is supposed to have some stuff at their booth, probably mostly industrial, but I'd be interested in whatever there may be.

(If you're not familiar with HDBaseT - Think of HDMI or HD-SDI signal run through a Cat 5e / 6 cable, but the cable also can carry data, control & up to 100w of power. Yes: it would be a HDMI or HD-SDI cable that also powers the device you're sending the cable to.)

If you stop by the BMD booth please try to pry out of them the panel specs on their new video assist monitor. Contrast, brightness, 8bit vs 6bit, pretty sure it is TFT and not IPS. None of this is on their website and it would be great to know these sort of things.

Also if they have a working model how does it look? Oh yeah ans software features like somebody else already mentioned although I'm more concerned about quality.

Thank you.

This.

Please.

Can you go find Portable Motorized Sliders ? Also Motorized Crane heads.

Okay, so the coolest thing I've found that might fit your needs is from a company called Syrp. Their motion control system works with any slider (or at least most sliders), or you can buy one from them. The whole system is as lightweight and portable as I think you can find, but best of all it's very, very easy to use.

The Genie is the larger unit, with full slide, pan and tilt control. The cost on that is around $750.

The Mini is a smaller unit that provides pan only, for $250.

Here's a link…

Mathews Studio Equipment booth please. I am camera launched out and would like to see something you can buy today or tomorrow not in late December.

Okay, without really knowing what you're looking for, I stopped by the Matthews booth and just asked them what was new. The highlights are…

RickyRods and Freedom Car Mount System. Highly-adjustable, rock-solid setup for car mounting.
IndieMount Car System. A more budget-friendly, lighter weight car mount system for DSLRs and Pocket Camera types.
The KerriKart. This is a mobile DanaDolly platform that doubles as a kind of grip cart. You can mount a Dana Dolly on speedrail, while having additional support below for grip gear. You can even rig out the cart with light stands and monitor arms. And of course it's on wheels, so it's easy to move around. Cool.
The Mini Slider Stand. Looks like a cousin to a baby combo stand, but made to support larger sliders. Again, rock-solid.
The Do-It-All Stand. Looks like a rolling baby combo stand but made to be able to support just about anything you put on it.

DVX200 is probably a given...I'm personally interested in GH4 updates and the GH5, or anything similar. Also any crazy follow focus systems or innovations in general. Sorry I'm vague.

Justin,

The DVX200 is…well…exactly what it looks like: a large-sensor DVX that shoots 4K. There aren't many details right now, and most of what there is is posted already. (Sorry to be so vague in return. :D)

As for GH4/5 updates, I've heard rumblings of the firmware update with V-Log Lite, but nothing anyone would go on record with. And yes, there is a GH5 successor coming, but no word on timeframe. The folks I talked to weren't really that tuned in to the GH5 development, since it's a consumer photo product. But they are actively listening to what we want, and I think that's about the best news I can give you.

Nothing really "new" in the follow focus world, per se. Bright Tangerine does have two new follow focus units coming out in 4-8 weeks that look pretty amazing, but they're evolutionary, not revolutionary. One of them is a single-wheel unit that will retail for around $1400, and the double-wheel cine version will be just over $2K.

The Andra follow focus system is pretty amazing, and slightly refined over last year. This is a really revolutionary tech that uses sensors to adjust focus automatically. Probably worth checking out if you're interested.

Cheers!
