NAB 2026

Well, it looks like the releases are starting to trickle out in advance of NAB.

Regarding the Deity PR-4, finally a price at $449. Not too bad, and about what I was expecting. I'm putting in a pre-order and we'll see if it solves for my specific use case. If it does then the old MixPre6-II may be going out the door for resale.

I was excited to see what Blackmagic would do in their live webinar and although all of the broadcast stuff isn't up my alley, I was pleasantly surprised to see the addition of a Photo tab to Resolve.

I switched over to Resolve for all of my video editing and color-grading a few years back now, but I still use Capture One for all of my photo shoot needs.

It remains to be seen how useful Resolve will be as a Capture One competitor, but I'm excited to check out what it can do. As someone who does both stills and video it's an appealing thought to be able to do all of it in one application.

GoPro releasing a new camera that has a Micro 4/3 mount was not on my bingo list, but it's the first time I've been halfway interested in their product now, so kudos to them on pushing the limits there. I'll probably wait to see how the image quality is before getting TOO interested. I have some pretty small cameras already.

Mostly I'm trying to spend as little on gear as possible this year though.

- Or how reliable it is. Gopro has failed too many filmmakers at critical times to be considered reliable professional gear at this point. Things could always change though...

I think the last time I used a GoPro for a shot that actually made it into some sort of edit was 2008 or 2009? I strapped it to the forehead of a college swimmer for a few shots.

When they first came out they were a bit of a fun novelty camera for trick shots or an underwater view but the quality didn't really do it for me so I pretty much never shot on them again. I know times have changed though and the quality has improved a lot since I owned the version 2 or 3??? I can't quite remember which model.

Neat idea. But MFT with a 1-inch sensor means I'd want like a 10mm lens or wider (or a 10-24 zoom or whatever)...I think. Still, a cool thing from them. Thanks for mentioning it. Here's their Mission 1 product page: https://gopro.com/en/us/info/mission-1-learnmore

Also, GoPro is a local(ish) company to me. I used to see people from there on bike rides and stuff. Did you hear the news from a week ago? Hope it works out for them.

What's with the large red spelled out record light? I assume you can turn it off?

It's sad that the days of thoughtful, recognisable product design without increasing the size of a logo are long gone!

Yeah that definitely needs to have the option to turn off. Hopefully it does or it's getting some black gaff tape over it.

you’re pretty much losing a potentially welcome light. Maybe someone who cares enough will 3D print a door with a solid clear window.

The cheese plate option is really cool though. I’d be inclined to use the bag away from the camera for mirrorless work and the bag looks great too.

Holy cow this looks good. Might actually be what I'm looking for over the Deity PR-4. More cost, but looks to have some insane versatility.

Maybe some of my more sound-inclined friends on here can weigh in?

Ya, Zaxcom had a mockup last year at NAB. Expected within the next couple of months. $1600 announced price. I haven't watched the video... Considering the price of Zaxcom's current (great) transmitters, would be REALLY cool if they brought out some lower-cost, say $800-$1000, transmitters.

I spoke with someone over at Gotham sound via phone a bit earlier and they seem to think it should be ready any day, hopefully... But they also caveated that it's been "coming soon" for 4 months.
