NAB 2017 rumors?

That doesn't change the fact that NAB is a broadcast convention... and that the a9 would have fit in better at PMA or Photokina also.

The events evolve around time. These people want to make $$$ and selling out/growing is a part of that.

Can't focus on broadcast-only because no one would go. Lots of toys in this world and they need to show them all.

This already started years ago, so nothing new.

Obviously they CAN focus on broadcast only, because the majority of the convention is ABOUT broadcast. Sony puts up a palatial booth, so announcing photography gear there is probably just due to the fact that it went into production and Sony was going to NAB anyway.

Of course, that they CAN doesn't mean that it's unwise to show other new products that are related to broadcast, and in any case the a9 is probably also a preview of technology that Sony plans to launch in broadcast and cinema cameras sooner or later.

I hope so...a7S was announced at NAB 2014 and I'm still waiting for my full-frame Sony cinema camera.

I don't think you'll be seeing one of those anytime soon, since other than a few blockbusters, most cinema is still using Super35.

An a7s sequel with a stacked sensor is very likely, IMO. I'd be surprised if it was NOT part of the plan.

But Sony has a full roster -aside of some telephoto - auto focus full frame zooms that are acceptable quality for the medium budget work in both broadcast and cinema. And "broadcast" doesn't have to mean ENG.

I predict NAB 2017 will be kind of a dud without much coverage here on DVXUser... :) It was kind of uneventful with the A9 being the only new camera and the forum here did not even change the NAB 2016 section to 2017. No worries though, the gear will keep on coming.

A Japanese magazine is "reporting" that the Japanese government is pushing some form of a Nikon-Fujifilm cooperation in the camera biz. Nikon is part of Mitsubishi and Fujifilm is not related to either Fuji Heavy Industries or Fujitsu but has a bunch of businesses anyway.

I think all be be revealed at the NAB'2017.
