NAB 2013: Atomos Samurai Blade

I asked about that... and apparently so did many many other people.
According to the engineers we spoke to it's definitely something that's on the table.

In the meantime - if you haven't seen their 'Connect Converters' you should check them out.
http://www.atomos.com/connect-converters/

It's not an ideal solution - but you could easily use one of those to add HDMI inputs to the Blade.

Good to know about those little converters. How did the screen look to you? Good enough to use a monitor too?

No question it is good enough to use as a monitor - now I say that in regards to focus only.
I had no real way of determining color fidelity on the show floor.
But given that you have built in vectorscopes, WFM and RGB parade along with all the current monitor functions of the Ninja and Samurai - I wouldn't hesitate to use it as my main on camera monitor.

I still use a SmallHD DP6 - and I would have no problem selling it now and picking up a Samurai Blade.
The screen is just a hair smaller than the DP6, but it looks every bit as sharp.

I considered getting a Connect and just purchasing a Samurai instead f the Ninja-2, but I like having a straight connection from the C100 to the Ninja without a third device to be a point-of-failure. However this new Samurai is very intriguing.

same here Gary, but it would be nice to have on the 5Dmark 3 if that proposed firmware update for 422 out is still releasing this month. Nice features to have, waveform, peaking, etc.

Does it have SDI through-put?

Actually couldnt find that on their website, but pretty safe to say it has 1 HD-SDI in and 1 HD-SDI out.

I really like the feature described below. IMO great work by ATOMOS this time round. I'll be ordering one.

DIRECTORS CUT AND TAG.

AtomOS gives you speedy navigation, cutting and tagging on short and long clips with transport controls and finite frame-by-frame accurate stepping. Cut editing is time consuming and usually done in a studio by the people who weren’t at the shoot. AtomOS lets you rough cut your footage, tag it as Favorite or Reject, then save as a project, ready to finish and polish in the studio. This is a powerful time and money saver and helps collaboration on set.

He spoke on it on a different video saying that this release should stay on track as it's not a whole new product, just tweaking some things.

They are tweaking software, but the hardware is final as far as I know.
They had some bugs in that affected the GUI, which is why they weren't fully functioning in the booth - but they did seem very confident that we'll see them hit the market within a month.

You guys believe what you want. They have a terrible track record of delivering a product. I believe what people do, not what they say. My guess is they might be delivering by Christmas.
