NAB 2012 DVXUser Coverage - What Would You Like To See?

I'd appreciate learning what smallHD has up their sleeve . . . Something's brewing.

Also, if anybody introduces a follow focus worth owning at a $500 price point.

Thanks!

Any HD field recorder for the FS100 that records 444 8bit.

Jarek you are correct in you statement 10bit

I would like to see if anyone has bridged an EVF with an external recorder (like the Sound Devices pix 220 or 240). Actually would be good to see what SD has up their sleeves as well.

Actually, here's what I want from the DVXUser team at NAB, and anyone else attending.

Please post discoveries in threads where we can find them. I don't know that everything new needs to go in categorized threads, but if you start a new thread, please label it in relation to the product. It seems every year NAB arrives, and it's really hard to get information, or new stuff is buried among other threads, or new threads are titled like "Incredible New Acquisition!!!" or "Panasonic Does it Again" or "Must read", etc.

So, if you find something new, make it to where we all can easily find it, if possible.

If the Admins here wish to set up a temporary sub-forum for NAB, that would be cool too.

thanks for arranging the NAB coverage.

+1 global shutter

+1 for arranging threads/making temp sub-forum

if you could standardize the thread titles, for example (just a quick example)

NAB2012 - Camera - ENG - 2/3 - 3CCD - 'make/model'
NAB2012 - Camera accessories - Rigs/Support - follow focus - 'make/model'
NAB2012 - Camera accessories - Video - Video Recorder - 10bit 422 RroRes/DNxHD - 'make/model'
NAB2012 - Camera accessories - Video - Field Monitor - 'size' - 'make/model'
NAB2012 - Camera accessories - Audio - Field Mixer - 'number of primary xlr inputs' - 96K 24bit - 'make/model'
NAB2012 - Camera accessories - Storage Media - SSD - 'make/model'
NAB2012 - Lens - Prime/zoom - 'mount' - 'focal length' - 'make/model'
NAB2012 - Post Production/Studio - hardware/software - 'what it does' - 'make/model'

That's an awesome idea and would make it really easy for future searches by just typing in NAB2012 or whatever year it happens to be.

I'd like to see coverage of some of the more niche stuff. Lights, external recorders, grip, etc. If there are fancy new cameras chances are we're going to hear about them all over the place. Heck major tech websites even report on Red, Digital Bolex and DSLRs. But what they don't cover are all the cool accessories, lighting and sound gear.

I'm not saying don't cover the cameras. Just try to get all the other cool stuff as well. Like someone else above said, when you cover the cameras get really technical and press them on the details. Price, release date, bitrate, color depth, etc. Stuff that major tech sites don't get that geeky about. Which is one of the things I love about DVXuser, how in depth everyone gets here.

But don't stop there, really drill them. Ask them why they don't put in higher bitrate options, cinemaDNG, 10-12bit color, clean HDMI out and so on.

Sorry guys…I'm not Chris Hansen and this isn't "To Catch A Predator."

We'll be talking to companies about what's there, not what isn't.

Sorry, I was exaggerating to make a point. I've yet to learn that a dry sense of humor never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever translates well in email or on the Web*.

But aw come on. Of course, plain clear coverage is all we expect, and will be grateful for whatever coverage you bring. I was just thinking, if you get the chance, if it feels right, it would be a bonus if you were to throw in a little "ahem" or a "what about..." or a "Our users often ask..." so on and so forth. Don't be annoying. And yeah, chances are you'll be talking to sales guys, not engineers (who are probably hiding), who are only prepped by the company by, like you said, what is, not what isn't.

* never, ever, ever

Generally the engineers aren't hiding…they're not around. NAB tends to be all about launch marketing and PR, but it is a good chance to see what's new.

Now, if I should get a chance to talk to any of the engineers/techs, I'll certainly ask them what's coming in the next few years of sensor tech and design. But don't get your hopes up.

I would like to see any alternatives to the Terradek or the Canon WFT-E6A that are compatible with any camera. WiFi tablet monitoring is what I am looking for.
