Hi,

I just got my hvx200 with a 4gb p2, I've been tryin to capture the footage off the p2 into fcp 5.0.2 but it wont show my card. I know this is all probably stupid simple to you guys but please bare with me, the driver that comes with my camera says compatible with powerbook g4 while im using a powermac g5. I connect the camera to the powermac g5 using firewire 400. Any help would be really great, I'm sure there are tutorials outthere but ive been searching forever and couldnt find any.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for the quick response. do I have any other optiions?, the thing is I got the fcp im using at home off of a friend so I think if i try to register for an update it will cause problems. any suggestions?

thanks

You need to install the driver on the G5 too. Whatever computer you are trying to mount the card on, needs to have that driver.

Put the camera in VTR mode via the button in the back. Once in VTR mode, press and hold that button for 3 seconds. Then the camera should become a reader and after about 30 seconds the card should mount.

OK, now I can mount the p2 card, but when I try to import from fcp menu I get an error saying the filesare probably corrupted eventhough they play fine in the camera, also I was under the impression that there is a way to capture direct to disk and not be limited by the 4 gb space on the p2.

Thanks a lot , I really appreciate all your help :)

I don't mean to be a troll here folks on someone else's board but I do have an issue with illegally-copied software. Please, mk23, purchase the software like all the rest of us did so that you indeed may get support, updates and that good feeling from knowing you have done the right thing.

your right, and other than freeware I do pay for my software, but Im new to mac and i wasnt gonna cough up that cash without tryin it out first, anyways, forget fcp when I bought the camera and the mac I thought it the camera would plugnplay, i never thought in anyway that I would have no options other than fcp, thats why in the begining of the thread i was askin about other options.

so does anyone know of any options (mac or pc) other than final cut for live capture to hard drive, thx

Yes, lots of options on the PC side. Avid XPress Pro HD will do it, and Canopus Edius Broadcast will do it, and Serious Magic is beta-testing DVC Rack which will be a fantastic tool -- I'm beta-testing it now and once they get it running 100%, it is far and away the best live-streaming capture tool on the PC.

And DVXUser member Bena is developing a similar application for the Mac.

And Ned, you were right on -- software piracy is most roundly condemned here.

thank U for the info barry green, and sorry about noob questions but this whole tech stuff is a bit overwhelming for me.

do you know at all if I could access the p2 from xp home not pro?, I get a missing driver error no matter what I do and I cant really upgrade to professional.

thx

I am not sure about that Barry. I think there are essential drivers in the XP PRO that are wrapped around the DVCPRO HD that are not there in the Home version. Willing to be wrong, but I have not heard success on this front.

Thanks,

Jan

I thought no one was checking the trhead anymore, didnt realize there is a second page :)

I think ur right Jan, for me XP home wont do much with the camera and definately wont deal with the p2 card, i get "error 1327.Invalid drive J:\" no matter what I do, I figured thats why the p2 manual says right at the start under OS "windows 2000 sp4 or later and xp professional sp2 or later."

Also Barry green is there a hvx guide like the dvx one of yours?, or is there even on outhere tha you would recommend?

thx a lot guys
