Mysterium sensor

I haven't seen any recent discussions about the mysterium sensor itself.

The company building it was, well... a mystery.

Now that there has been a public viewing im wondering if the RED team would like to tell us who is building this sensor.

Good question. I'm interested as well. It will probably be just some unknown chip plant in Taiwan, but still.

Seems reasonable. At this point its probably still a strategic advantage.

Wouldn't want Panasonic or Sony running over to them.

The Mysterium sensor is as much owned by RED as Sony's sensors are owned by Sony. Neither company is quick to tell you where or how they are fabricated.

Ah, I was thinking it was more of a typical OEM partnership.

You won't see the Mysterium sensor show up at any other camera company. And I doubt you will see specs like this for quite awhile.

Yes, im quite sure we wont see specs like this for quite some time. And if we do it certainly wont be at REDs price point.

Jim, it must bring you great joy knowing how Fu**ed the other camera companies are... in a friendly, respectful, healthy competition sort of way ofcourse. :-)

Industrial spies have found where RED gets its chips and and photographed the factory. Very tasty.

Achrochordon this is a SERIOUS business to all of these guys here. Many of us are still evaluating red and offering constructive points good or bad.

I am trying to run a fishery AND learn this new world of videography AND evaluate whether i should spend a huge amount of my hard earned money on a red camera and extras.

No disrespect to you but you are not in the same category of these guys (and neither am i for that matter). Thes guys have spent their lives doing this work and make a living doing so. It is all very well for some of the pros to provide a laugh occassionaly with a photo, that eases up the pressure of work. You on the other hand post countless photos all the time!

Back to the subject on hand. I must say i had a massive sigh of relief with the comments coming from red yesterday with regard the shoulder mount and the sensor. In fact the whole development of red. That man Jannard has his finger well and trully on the pulse. Very reassuring indeed so much so that i don't feel the need to post at all with the development of the camera unless it is a learning question. When you read about the problems Dalsa had trying to get the sensor developed and working correctly and the rumoured (true or false) of the sheer number of sensors that failed with them it is an incredible achievement by red.
